Big New Announcement from Kreg

Why does plastic make something crappy? There are many good Kreg tools.

I prefer a well made plastic item than a poorly designed metal one.

And frankly when I've looked at the Kreg Pocket Hole jigs in stores they feel very flimsy compared to my UJK Technologies (Axminster) solid aluminium one.

I've just ordered the UJK one looks like a really solid tool. I do have the Kreg one already but haven't got the dust extraction part I've just got the basic k3. Gone for the full set with dust port, 1000 screws and another clamp :) can never have enough of those clamps lol .

The UJK jig has lots of good reviews too that's what swayed me.

+1

Also, metal would be heavier, etc., as others have hinted at.

There are many kinds of plastics; Kreg seems to use one of the better ones, suitable to what it is being used for, and it is generally of reasonable thickness.  I think a lot of the plastic tools worth complaining about use an inappropriate plastic or make it too thin.

Plastic is less likely to scratch things, too...

Hmm... When I go to Kreg it says 1 hour 20 minutes.... I wonder if they forgot to calculate for time zone differences.

In any case, it looks like that crazy toolnut beat them to their announcement.  ;)

3hr 30min here now, I guess the idea is a 10am release no matter the time zone. I wish the Belmont Stakes worked that way, I'd have almost 3 hours after the race to place a bet in Vegas :)

I too lusted after the Electric Foreman but couldn't justify the price.  Hopefully it will fit into a Systainer which I doubt after looking at the handle closely.  Maybe it will fit into the giant Sys 5.

Kreg don't seem to be able to update their own website ... way to go guys ... tease with a countdown and do NOTHING when it hits zero.

BOO to the Kreg webmaster [mad] [mad] [mad]

At least their resellers have picked up the slack!

Too funny Kev.
And while the new product looks nice, I don't have a need for it.  Still, it will be interesting to see how it works out for people who end up with it.

Anyone lose their socks over this?
Now that you mention it, mine are where I left them this morning, still on my feet- Whew, that was a close one...

Not overwhelmed but I might justify it based on a pending utility area cabinet project. Mostly because I can probably hide it in the client's budget... it's my wife.  [big grin]

Will probably wait to see how the reviews look. The handle and clamp arm look pretty flexy-plasticy.

Kreg's pocket hole jigs weren't always plastic.  I have this vintage Kreg Jig, which I love, but the plastic one is far more versatile.
