Hi guys,

So I often use birch ply for my cabinet work and other projects.

I have a small shop so I only buy what I need when I need it as I don't have room for a pallet/bundle. A friend has just taken on a unit local to me so I now do have room to store a pallet load.

My current supplier Arnold laver in Reading, Berkshire has just increased its prices for birch ply. For example I was buying 18mm sheets for £39+vat and it has now gone up to around £48+vat a sheet. Similar price increase across all thickness.

My question really is where do you buy your birch ply from and have you noticed any increase in price recently? Also what kind of deal should I be expecting if I was to buy a pallet load? Is there much of a saving to be had?

I am planning on contacting a few suppliers next week like James Latham and Timbmet to see if they can help.

I'm based around he Oxfordshire/Berkshire area. So somewhere local we be helpful

Thanks
Jimmy

I was quoted £42 for 18mm this week. That's from my local timber merchant MGM timber.

I guessing that's +vat and bb grade?

Anyone buying from james lathem? They seem to have a large panel section including melamine birch ply.

You need to give Rembrand timber a call I stopped using Mgm  timber there were much dear than Rembrand by 3 or 4 quid on everything

I have an account with Rembrand but don't use them much. I phoned for a price recently and they were about 20% too much but that was a big quantity. They're also too far away for picking up a couple of lengths up or whatever.

€168 for birch ply in France!!!!!  [eek]

Maybe I should moan to much about the price increase then!

How about this one to really make you blink

9mm interior ply, oak faced, interior grade ply in france will laminate if it is placed within 10ft of anything that is slightly damp, I think they must use unibond primer to glue it together
