Blum Locking Clips

I just learned that Blum makes a depth adjustable locking clip. The depth can be adjusted up to 3/32". When using 563 slides, I've always tweaked the depth using the elongated holes, then secured them into position using the remaining holes.

I've been wondering how many pros actually use these and if the added cost -- almost $2 more per clip over the side adjustable clips -- is worth the benefit.

Thoughts?

That is the clip we use primarily. 99% of our builds are inset, the fine adjustment allows use to dial in the faces.

Good to know. I'll have to try them out as most of what I make is also inset. I just wrapped up a large bed/dresser/desk/room divider project for the girl's bedroom with 12 inset fronts. A few of them required multiple adjustments and I'm guessing these could've come in handy, especially with my OCD 😎

What does it lock?

The drawer box to the undermount slide.

It matters if you're installing Tandems using 32mm system holes where adjustability is mainly limited to the clip locking mechanism. It's easy to rack or distort frameless boxes when they're being installed so you want every bit of adjustability in the hardware. Just a matter of personal preference I suppose.

If you use them, for what it's worth I found that I need to wiggle the little depth adjustment plunger part when I adjust them, at least on ones I've used it doesn't usually seem to move freely when I turn the adjustment wheel. Was very disappointed in the lack of adjustment depth until I realized that the part would move its full range with just a little wiggle of the part while turning the adjustment knob.

One other question I have regarding the side-to-side mechanism:

Is there a starting point you like to use for the dials?

I usually center try to center them after sliding in the box so I have equal amounts of adjustment when the fronts go on. Once the spacing is dialed in, I try to tighten up them up by spinning the dials outward in opposite directions. I also make sure the vertical adjustment is lowered. I didn't pay attention on one of my drawer front installs and the vertical adjusters were pushed all the way in preventing the adjustment I needed.

Rookie mistake!

The device should come centered. We start centered and adjust from there, once adjusted that’s where we leave it.

You aren’t the only one who’s made the vertical adjustment mistake with the Tandem slides. On the Movemento slide the vertical adjustment is much firmer. The Movemento also requires an add on device for in/out adjustment.
