Bookcase for my mom

After everything dried, I went back and accented some spots with gold leaf to make it pop.  I've never tried to create an antique finish before.  I'm very pleased with how this worked out.

This is seriously beautiful. Something that would easily sell for thousands of dollars. Can you describe how you finished it? Paint, stain... This is wonderful work.

Thank you very much.  Funny you should say that.  This all started because she saw a bookcase that she liked but they were asking $15K for it.  And it was ON SALE!!!  So she took a few measurements for me and sent me a pic of it.  It did have spiral columns on it.  But we chose to go the easier, and I think better route.  It's just an oil based paint from Sherwin Williams.  My mom took something in to them to match the color, and I sprayed it on.  I lightly sanded/scraped between coats.  Probably about 4 coats after the primer.  I considered spraying on lacquer when I was done, but I was afraid I might screw it up.  I know nothing about finishing.  This was seriously my first time to try anything like this.

I am working on the build video now and am wanting to enter it in the Festool video contest.  It was built almost exclusively with Festool.  With the exceptions of the brad nailer, HVLP, and table saw, everything else was Festool.  I love working with them.  They seriously take my skills to a whole other level.  I got video of all the tools I used with the contest in mind.  I promise to post it as soon as I'm done editing.

(I generally do not like that style, but...)
That is exceptional.

The 15k looks consistent with my idea of the amount of time that went into it.

I honestly would not even know where to start on a project like that.
And these things are the type of things that really interest me...
Therefore I am looking forward to the video.

Besides great detailed execution of the various mouldings, the proportions and symmetry are very appealing.  Well done and congratulations!

Wow! That is beautiful work you did! I'm sure your Mom loves it. I hope one day I have enough nerve to try and build something like that. It came out perfect, and the finish really compliments the fine craftsmanship. I also am looking forward to the video.

Did you make all the moldings or buy them?

Thank you. I made all mouldings but the crown. I don't have a shaper.

Fantastic piece. Very regal looking with the colors used, I too am looking forward to the video on this one for sure!

Here is the link to the video.  It's really geared more towards the next Festool video contest rather than an instructional video.  But I hope you enjoy it or maybe get some ideas.

There isn't a single thing about that book case that I don't like.
Great work and great attention to detail, like a fine wine it was worth the wait.
