Bora centipede worktop

TSO email just came out with this (same price) along with the different centipede expandable work support

In the US Sam's Club sells Bora. On occasion they have good pricing. Returns are easy. They do not list this 20mm dog top at the moment, but they do have other offerings.

The Bora site has a few reviews of the 20mm top. I was curious how well the holes aligned with the folding top. Not much on the topic.

I have the 2 by 4 dingus and 20mm top, although it's basically unused other than having reamed out the holes when I first got it. Seemed like a great addition to my shop given limited storage space but having the ability to setup outside in good weather.

On thing I don't like is the height. My worktops are higher than the standard MFT by preference, the Bora is somewhat lower. I'll probably only ever use it for carcass assembly or the like, it's too low for most handwork.

They do offer the 36" high centipede tables now, but the price is seemingly a lot higher and not just a few inches higher ;)

Actually I don’t really care about the base, was wondering about the top itself.

Ron, the top is quality, hinges are sturdy. I haven't checked the hole spacing to ensure they are dead on 96 but can tomorrow if that's important to you. As mentioned, I had to use the Axminster reamer to open them up slightly, then add a chamfer.

At that point if put it aside...

I have one. I have the 4x8 base and I use the added height pieces. It's just too low without the added height.

I didn't know enough to order the 20mm because I didn't appreciate Festool when I bought it. I have the 3/4" holes so some clamps don't fit. I will be drilling out the holes to 20mm as soon as the drill bits arrive.

20mm holes 96mm on center 610x1200 (2x4)

At $90 bucks it seems attractive.

Friends,
TSO has egg on its face this morning and dicovered it just now thanks to this FOG thread.
Our product page needs to be corrected to consistently show the correct height throughout the the text.

The gremlins really got us messed up this time showing incorrect ehgiths of ThirtyEIGHT inches and wrong height of 30 inches at other areas of the text.

Look for the postings to be corected  and call customer service if you'are going to order on Monday

OK, here it is Monday with a TSO correction and clarification:

The 30 inch working height of the Centipede has proven to be the most popular customer choice.
Our check-out price page lists our CK15S offering as 38 Inches tall – which is the height when collapsed for shipping –  it gets shorter as it is unfolded.

• Key Features Text:  Expands with ease to create a 4x8-foot workstation with a working height of 30"

Our CK6S offering
Key Features
• Creates a 2x4-foot workstation with a 30" working height
• Supports 2,500 lbs.
• Includes two Quick Clamps, four X-Cups, and one Carry Bag
Folded dimensions: 6x9x38"

Remember: if you’re using a track saw your hand will be significantly higher relative to your body.
With my apologies for not catching these questions in the first place.

Hans

Bora also has the 36" high products now like the CTC6 2'x4'x36". Might be useful to offer them to the taller TSO customers.

They also ( or used to ) offer risers for the top of the centipedes, not sure if it is compatible with their tops.

The MOST important picture is missing from the Bora product page: The one that shows the risers installed to the Centipede. The picture showing the fellow carrying the bag is irrelevant. Someone was too lazy to make the product page work.

Yea, that's the 3/4 dog hole version.

Yea, their site is junk. Really annoyed by the chat thing they have there that makes sound. It violates all of the rules of the internet.

The risers use plastic threads. I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for the video link.

I had 4 Centipedes, and now have 2, after selling one and giving another one away. They're good for assembly or as a top for finishing or putting stuff on. I wouldn't use them for anything else because they are not sturdy like a workbench, and that's also why I don't own any MFTs.

Centipede with a sheet of plywood on top is pretty wobbly but if you secure two corners of the plywood to a wall it becomes stable enough for planing and most anything else except heavy pounding.

The same goes with an MFT if one of its sides is placed against a wall, but that's not how most people set up their MFTs. In my case, there's no wall anywhere in the shop I can butt anything against as cabinets, machines and my workbench are in the way.
