Anyone got a bosch GLL 2 80 laser level ?

Ive had a stabila lax 200 for a few years but not fully happy with it so thought Id get a 360 degree laser. I can get the Bosch for £230 from ffx just want to hear from anyone whos got one. Are they any good ?

I have the GL 3 and it's fantastic...would imagine the 2 is also.

yeah I think the 2 plane laser will do me cant see me needing 3.

On the videos the line looks quite thick , is it ?

what sort of distance do you use yours indoors ?

Hi,

I have had the GLL2-80 for a couple of years and I am very happy with it. I always work to the center of the line as the line thickness varies with distance. I find it very accurate and have never wished for the second vertical line for what I am doing. I think that would be useful for flooring etc.

Keep some extra battery's in the case and remember to lock the pendulum before moving it.

I've got the Bosch GLL 5-40 E 5 Line Electronic Multi-Line Laser, and it's fantastic. Costs a bit more than the GLL 2 80, but well worth the extra.

Cheers Gerry, yeah I always use the centre of the line. Think I will go for the gll2 80. Just trying to find out if the basic laser comes in a proper plastic carry case here in the UK. It looks as though it just comes with a small cloth bag but some pictures show a plastic carry case with foam padding around the laser.

Yeah think that's what I'll end up doing. The only cased version I can find in the UK is the set with detector in one of those stupid lboxxes.

I have found a company in Poland on eBay £274 delivered to UK. Thats the laser plus bracket in the case I posted above.

Think I'll still just get the basic laser for£230 from ffx and put it in a SYS. I didn't bother with my Stabila and just keep it stored in my van in the cloth case. That's probably why it's not level any more

Mine came with the case and the adjustable base etc. I did buy the receiver and have used it a couple of times not sure it was worth getting but maybe next year I'll do a outside job [tongue]

If you can get the case it is worth having.

Gerry

Yeah I do want the case version but it seems hard to get here.

I've already got a receiver that someone gave me , but it wouldn't work with my Stabila as it doesn't pulse. I know the Bosch does pulse though.

I have had the GLL2-80 since they first came out and the GLL3 80 didn't exist yet, I'm thinking 10 years or so. It was the introductory special at a Bosch event and was nearly free.

It works well and was possibly the first 360 degree laser that wasn't a rotary. No lack of range inside. I have tested several lasers for line width along a long internal hallway in my house that is 70' long and it clealy visable. I've used it inside a 120'x120' building with lots of high bay lighting running and I recall I didn't have to keep the laser near the center of the building.

I do prefer my PLS360 for strictly horizontal work and it does have more range outside with its 5 lasers to cover the 360 degrees vs the Bosch GLLx-80 lasers working through a conical mirror. The PLS has a better detector for outside work and the horizontal laser is very low, which has advantages for some uses. My GLL2-50 also has a very low horizontal laser but it is a cross laser.

The Bosch magnetic bracket with height adjustment that comes with the Bosch GLL2-80 is first class.

I can dig up some pictures of various laser line widths at 70' if you wish.

Cheers Greg, think the Bosch will do me as its mostly for indoor use.

Funny enough I found an old thread I started 5 years ago when I bought the Stabila and a couple of people mentioned the Bosch gll 2 80 back then.

Bosch turned up today :) looks good so far , very solid. The line is sharper than my Stabila. No more moving the laser about just sit it down turn it on and you've got a 360 degree like just line a spinner.

Also ordered a cheap Trend blade for my ts55, thought I'd give one a try.

Also if you do bash it and it gos out of whack mate then I have a firm that fixes lasers. Only normally 30 quid to get them re aligned....don't ask me how I know!

Interesting , I might need my old Stabila calibrated before I sell it.

I bought the gll 3-80 a few weeks back,  and it has significantly increased my work flow,  accuracy and speed. I build built-in beds,  closets etc,  so I often have to make something straight from floor to ceiling in old crooked houses. The laser is a joy to work with - and it has way more applications than I thought. I use it for squaring up cabinets and even a deck I built last week. A bit difficult to see in bright sunlight, but doable...

Definitely worth the money for me.
