When i bought this house 4 years ago after my divorce, it was a walk back to the  70s. The back garden was a complete bush of weeds and treestumps. Not a place to spend your time in the summer. There was no fence or something else between mine and the  neighbours garden, in pact the path to the end of the garden was in the middle. Half mine, half theirs. 6 Days before i turned 50 i started digging the foundation, and poured concrete, that was saturday.

Day 2. Monday i bolted steel colums on the concrete and put wooden beams on top. Ater that I had to take away the old iron roof construction. Then placing the crossbeams to the wall. Not bad for 1 person in a day

Day 3. I screwed scaffolding boards/plancks on top

Day 4. I wanted a lightning with fibreglass wires to create a starry sky. This means drilling 300 holes of 2mm and putting the wires in and cut them flush with the wood. Just 1 more cable for the lamp over the dining table and ready for closing. After that i put protective foil on the roof and slats for the rooftiles

Day 5. I had to do retiling the existing roof as well. Some beams were broken and the nails of the tile slats where rusted away. This was for later. for now put some cover on top to make it raintight and clean up.

Day 6 . My birthday. More clean up and decoration, and in the evening partytime.

During the following years improvements where made. The existing roof was retiled with foil underneath, An outdoor kitchen made of 2 old kitchens i got. The lounche was made of left over pieces of wood from the porch and some pallets. Gutter installed .
Now it looks like this. And all of this at a total cost of only €250,-, and a lot of sweat.

The rest of the gardenwork. Taking the concrete path out, digging holes for poles and put a concrete fence in. And more digging and moving ground, there was 40cm difference from front to back. Planing it out, new path and sun terrace, grass and so on. the end result:

Except the retiling of the roof and 2 plates for the fence, All the work was done by me alone. The boards of that fence are 40Kg a piece, there are 68 of them. With a jig and a winch i managed 40 on 1 day.

PS: say HELLO to GereedschapPro for us!

Yes, nice work Danny, that's quite a difference. Must be nice sitting there in the evening sommer sun.

That looks like a nice place to unwind. I like the 18"/47cm Weber as well, but I am biased.

Amazing!

I really like the look of what your fan is sitting on.  I originally thought it was the side/back of one of the seats, but upon further inspection it appears to be a knee-wall?

We have an early 60's house here and I'm looking for inspiration for a pergola over our patio.  The "knee wall", as I call it from that picture, is the style I was thinking of using for a screen wall on the side closest to our nearest neighbors, and or for an end wall on a porch extension in the front of our house.  Any more details on that? (material size, spacing? 1x8s or 2x8's with 3/4"-1" [20-25 mm] gap?)

We thought about a screened area with solid roof, but it would block too much light into our sitting room.

That fan is on a pallet standing on its side, with a piece of plywood on top, This is a makeshift tv stand. I plan to make a cabinet on wheels  with tv lift inside.

Well done!  That's a real nice place to sit down with your friends after a long day's work. Hopefully the Covid-19 storm will lay down soon to allow us all to have such happy times again.

Building the concrete fence sounds like absolute hell, but it should outlast any of us on this planet.

I completely glossed over it being concrete  [eek]

One of the only times I see those are when they're used as sound barriers next to the interstate / motorway.
