Hello all,

I am trolling for opinions on reference books for cabinet construction.  I have come across a lot of really great information on this site (especially the built in video series from Kreg).  I am looking for more specific information regarding the finer points of face frame cabinet construction and design (i.e. common stile widths, how much frame overlap into cabinet box, how much face frame overlap on outside, overlay specs for doors/drawers, common file cabinet dimensions, etc.)  I am pretty confident with my box construction and plan to take on a library built-in as my next project, but as they say, the devil is in the details.

I prefer books, because I like to keep them in my shop area as quick reference guides.  Any recommendations for good reference material are much appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Firstly, welcome to the FOG  [welcome], you're going to find a massive amount of expertise here.

As for the reference books, I find myself using 'Illustrated Cabinetmaking: How to Design and Construct Furniture That Works'  (by Bill Hylton) a lot, you might want to check it out. Full of useful illustrations.

Cheers,
Rick

Welcome to the FOG, Pete.

Two books that I find invaluable are:
  • Illustrated Cabinetmaking, How to Design and Construct Furniture that Works, by Bill Hylton, Fox Chapel Publishing, (good choice, Mac) and
  • The Complete Illustrated Guide to Furniture and Cabinet Construction, by Andy Rae, Taunto Press

Good luck!!!

Thank you for the info.  The quantity of information floating around on this topic is staggering, so I appreciate some direction in getting underway.

Best regards,

Pete
