Can anyone identify this tool?

Not too familiar with Festool line of planers. Not sure the owner knows much about this tool. Trying to get some info on it. It’s posted to local classifieds.

This is an older model I think it says 2003.
Would it be worth ~$200
They said like new.

Yes I see it is $700 new but if it was manufactured in 2003 that’s 16 years old. Not sure what that means for this tool. I don’t know if they have updated it since or what sitting for that long does to a tool. I’m not super familiar with the used festool market.

That is a steal at that price if it works. It is the same tool as what is available today. No changes in scope of delivery.

Sitting for that long does nothing to a tool. Still as good as it was new.

It's still in production so parts aren't a problem.  My offer for 10 of these though is still good...

If the planer is as claimed like new, I would snap it up. On the other hand, if it’s seen 16 years of regular use, and maybe even professionally, I wouldn’t be too excited about it.

Btw, it wouldn’t have cost $700 16 years ago but, if it’s in an as new condition that’s less than 30% of what you’d pay for a new one with a later date stamp.  [scratch chin]

The build looks to be the same as the current model, so I would assume so.

    Looks  like a good deal to me. Even if it needs a new blade (about $40).  Though I would check it out and fire it up, make sure everything works. Most things I see described as "like new", are not. From the pics it looks fine. But it doesn't look "like new" to me.  But that doesn't mean it still isn't a good deal.

Terrific specialty planer.  You don't likely need its special features but it's a cool tool.

There were a couple of complaints about the bearings leaking fluid in those when left sitting.  Last time I looked at mine it was fine.

I owned one of these while I was working. It was a well-built and solid tool.  Dust collection was excellent, although it was a bit of a hassle to operate the planer and manage the hose.  I had the bevel attachment so we could use it for working on doors.

It has plenty of power. I don't know if it is worth $200, other than the new one is more than three times that cost.  With that said, there is a very nice Makita model that has the discharge port that could be used with dust collection. I would have to look for the model # but it's < $200.  That might be a good option for you , new tool, with no concerns about the age of the 2003 model Festool .

Yeah I think I definitely perk up when I think I find good deals  and tend to ignore the use I would get out of it. I have an electric Bosch planer that works okay for my door needs. Tends to tear out and leave a lot of marks. I don’t use it very often. But I just get excited when I find good deals, mostly festool. Don’t know if I’ll be able to justify this purchase. I’ll think on it some more.

Since yer in So Cal, buy the planer take it to Anderson Ply, let Don have a look at it (he's the most knowledgeable festool person in the area) Have he go through it with you, if it needs anything then send it in to festool service for servicing and youll still be money ahead.

I highly recommend getting the fence (angle stop for it) then you can use it as a door plane and edge plan to clean up edge of boards.

If you can find a bench unit even better it turns that planer into a mini jointer.

I bought mine used and never had a problem with it.

Oh they also make different heads for it to, I like te undulating head which is used to make lumber look like its hand hewn/ rustic.

Very good planer good.
