Can I stack two Ct Hose garage units on top of each other- what do I need join?

I have two hoses -- these are the smaller diameter hoses for the handtools-- they have the rubbery end that fits over the outflow on the sanders and the other end is the large diameter hard plastic end that fits into the CT 33 vacuum that I own. I have two questions-

1) how do I join one hose to the other to make a longer hose? I tried buying some parts but I never seem to get the right parts to connect the two hoses easily -- I have used duct tape but that is kind of ugly. So I have to join one end of the hose connected to the vac which would be the rubbery smaller diameter end to the larger diameter hard plastic male end of my second hose. I do have the Y connector to connect them both to the vac so I can setup two tools at once but sometimes I need a longer hose and I would like to connect them to each other end to end to make one longer hose.

2) I have one hose garage already which holds one hose nicely -- so I was wondering if I can simply buy a second garage and stack it on top for storing the second hose when transporting all my tools. I understand I would have to remove the top garage to get to the hose in the lower one but for just moving all the components around during transport and storage this would still be nice.

Thanks

Jeff

Yes, you can connect multiple hose garages on your CT 33. There's nothing special required. They just connect to one another using the SysDock latches.

Edit: Sorry, other question about joining hoses. It's on page 12 of the catalog.

Festool Tip: To join hoses together, replace
one ‘tool end’ (Reducing Sleeve), with a ‘vac
end’ (Rotating Connector) and splice together with a
Connector Sleeve. To join a 36 mm hose to a 27 mm
hose, replace the Reducing Sleeve with a Rotating
Connector (452 894), then use a Connector Sleeve
(493 047) to splice together.

A search of the forum will also yield some posts on the topic.

For those that don't have a catalog or don't have one handy, just take off one of the rubber tool ends. It looks like this:

Replace it with a Rotating Connector (the same as the CT side of the hose). The one for the 27mm hose is 452892 and for the 36mm hose, it's 452894. they look like the two on the right in this image:

The way you get them off/on is to depress the two tabs in the side of the hose end of the outer sleeve. This will allow you to take that sleeve off. Underneath the sleeve you will find a threaded ring that screws onto the hose and holds the end with the tabs onto the hose. Unscrew that and remove that end piece. Do the reverse for mounting the alternate.

Once that it done, connect the two Rotating Connectors (CT ends) using a Connector Sleeve (493047). It looks like this:

This Connector Sleeve is antistatic so you will maintain the antistatic properties.

personally i dont think joining 2 27mm hoses together is a great job. you will loose a lot of sucktion, you should move the vac.

as for storing them 2 hoses . i think you would be better off puting the second one in a systainer on its own. that way you can bring it if you want or leave it in the van. i have my 36mm 3.5m hose in a sys3, im sure you could probable get a 27mm into sys2

eagle32,

I can understand wanting to connect two 27mm.  Yea you do loose some power but that is a trade off for the convenience.

The options given means you have change ends which can take more time than moving the unit. I would really like a AS connector that I could use to connect to normal none modified hoses when I need it.

It was good to hear that you an stack to hose garages. I have a long 27MM hose in a systainer but I I don't use it as much as I want because it means taking another systainer with me... a hose garage would be a little easy to transport.

That said I do keep my 36mm AS in a systainer with other Kapex stuff, and that I find handy.

How you store the hoses is really a personal/how you use the tools issue.

Cheers,
Steve

few years back, pre-festool days..., I pick up some of these adapters:

and cut it down recently to this:

And it works for connecting the hoses together like this:

[attachimg=3]

I then cut down the length of the of the 36mm to just run from the non-festool product to the end of the boom arm so that I can quickly connect either a 36mm or 27mm.  Would have bought and used a 50mm for the short span but it won't work in the boom arm fittings:

Also, picked up a 4" to 2-1/2" connector. There are two types, one has a smooth 4" connector for connecting to a dust collector 4" fitting and the other end is a 2-1/2" smooth connector, that will not work. The one designed with the threading for connection to a 2-1/2" flexible hose fits perfect with any festool hose. This is great for when you do also have a dust collection system and you are planning on creating volumes of shavings (i.e. HL-850E  planer).

The 4" adapter came from Woodcraft, but when I went by there a few weeks ago, they no longer carried it. I have seen similar to it online though.

The multi-diamater adapter came from Lowes where they sale shop vacs.

It is similar to this:  http://www.ptreeusa.com/dustfittings_adaptors.htm

As far as the fittings being AS, they are not labeled, nor would I expect anything other than FT to make that claim. The RH in my shop is normally so low, AS doesn't seem to make any difference for what I do. I think that is why the Dust deputy comes with a strip of copper tape to try a maintain the AS of the festool equipment.
