Hi all. Have been reading all your great advice to others for ages. Thought I would ask for some. I am trying to get detailed drawings of the cargo bed/rollout shelf mechanism I have seen on this site(cargobed.com) or similar. I would get them shipped but they have never heard of my van. I need something to make it easier to get my gear in and out to sites. I will not mention my Kapex, Symmetric SYM70, or Precisio CS70 cause these seem to be a touchy subject. Thanks Derek  (Belfast NI)

What kind of van do you drive?
Have you looked at this:
Tanos Mobil? Don't know where it is in English, but you get the idea....

Hello Eli Thanks for that link. I have something like that in one of my vans already. It is Festools fault really. I cannot live without my Systainers and of course the one I want is always at the back of the pile. What I am trying to do is, separate the load area from the tools. The sliding floor idea is so I can use the side door of the van. Pull out the floor/drawer and lift off the stack I need. So I do not have to lift everything out. Simple idea just having trouble figuring out the slides. If I am not mistaken you are in Oz. They have a similar idea for the back of Toyota Landcruisers etc. Oh well, I will keep looking. It is an LDV Convoy by the way.  Derek

If you are going to fabricate it yourself find a distributor/manufacturer of linear bearings. They'll have something industrial that can handle the load and application. Failing that check Grainger International or another company that has a big load handling division.

Derek:
I sent you a pm containing an article from FineHomebuilding may help you.
I tried to post the actual article but it would not include the drawings which are needed.

Hope it helps.

Thankyou John that is exactly what I was looking for. I will use Aluminium box instead of wood to keep the size and weight down. If I ever learn how I will post pictures. Derek

I think using aluminum would be an excellent idea. I am getting ready to build the same thing (which is why I knew where to find it) for my van and I think I will look for some aluminum too. Thanks for the suggestion.
I will post the link in case anyone else is interested.http://www.taunton.com/finehomebuil...extender-tool-storage.aspx?nterms=65744&ac=fp
Not sure if  it can be seen if you are not a member, but if not, send me a pm and I will send it from Taunton's website (allowed in case anyone is concerned).

Hi all,

Good sources for such things are the manufacturers who make roll out trays for large motor homes with "basement" storage bays.  Some go the full width of the coach (nearly 8') and are designed to carry a lot of weight.  They come in different widths and have locks to keep them in place while driving.  They should fit the length of a van and simple racks/bins can be built on top to fit the width and contours required to clear the wheel wells yet the whole thing could slide out as far as you need to access everything.  One significant advantage to this slide out unit is it can be designed to allow access from the outside (the part of the rack that is against the walls of the van when inside) as well or instead of access through a center isle that consumes so much of the net space available inside a van.

Nope, I don't have or need one, but I have owned and used these slide out trays on motor coaches with great success.  When we lived full time in one of these "rolling condos" for four years while looking for an interesting building to restore into our studio, gallery and living quarters, we carried everything we needed for four season living on such trays.  Roll them out to access everything from end to end.

Likewise, we used them in the jockey boxes of our forty foot grip trailer. Some of the trays were in the range of 500-600 pounds of gear. It's great to have the generator on one, makes it much easier to fuel.
