I found this old apron in the basement and sewed some more slots for pencils. I also sewed in a plastic drinking straw as a guard for my awl.

You couldn't get me to put an awl in that pocket, even with a plastic straw!  [eek]
I see what you're getting at but the thicker part of the blade wedges very securely into the straw so it can't poke down. It can't cut through the side either.

Mine says Wye River tool and home. I think it's from my grandfather who was a sales associate for hardware and tools.

Anyone thinking of a vest needs to check out the occidental leather suspendavest 2500.  I always hated wearing a belt so i never did. Bought a 2500 a few months ago after alot of research  and i love it.  Wear it every day without hesitation.  Big thing for me with full coverage style vests was heat in the summer.  The 2500 is nice and open.  Another plus for me is that it is modular.  I work inside and out so with the 2500 i can just strap my existing pouches onto it when i work outside and not have to shift my core tools from a vest to a belt.    If you.look at pictures,  there is a leather holder on the back left that they use for tin snips or similar,  it is perfect for a combination square
Hope this helps.  If anyone wants pic of my setup let me know.  I will take some and post them

Bob

Bob, let me know what you think of my modeling skills    are they still looking for pictures for the calendar??

i usually keep my utility knife in the leg pocket of my pants, but you could put it in the open spot in the vest.    i actually like the open slot because it gives me room for a more specific tool based on what im doing for the day.    i also always keep a leatherman surge on my belt    i find i rarely do not have the tool i need

both sides have pockets you access from the rear (where the red gloves are)  i put gloves in one side and my phone in the other side

i keep the wire nuts in the side with the notepad (notepad is very handy)  you could also put a speed square in that pocket as well if need be

the only mod i made is where i mount my tape measure  that is the occidental logo square leather patch sewn onto the strap... i simply cut the stitching on the top of the patch and it the tape hooks right onto it

feel free to ask any questions

John

John,

Thanks John!  That's really helpful.  It's amazing how much you can carry on that rig.

By the way, it DOES look like you're getting arrested!  [big grin]

I guess they won't really need to ask "do you have anything in your pockets that might stick me?"    [laughing]
