Carvex and the 36mm hose

Hi guys,

After i long drought in buying any new festools i'm now eyeing up my next purchase which will be a carvex ps420 barrel grip.

One question i have with it though.
I read that the carvex only uses the 27mm hose, which is a pain as i'll be swapping a lot from my ts55 to carvex in my job. I like to use the 36mm hose as much as possible.
Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a 36mm hose to the carvex or if there is an extra spout adapter available for the 36mm hose.

Not sure if there is a reducer available but the 36mm hose will not fit the carvex . the 27mm hose connection fits over the carvex dust port.

Get a Bosch 35mm hose or their adapter. Native fit inside and out for all 27 and 36 Festool hoses.

I am glad that you have found a potential solution for your situation, but I would offer the following for thought:

Using the 36mm hose with a nimble jigsaw is likely to cause movement issues.  Let alone that the saw will not need the additional airflow of the 36mm.  If you go the route of an adaptor hose you might want to consider getting a longer setup so that the heavier weight of the larger hose is further away from the tool.

i really wish these connections were a quick screw on type with a few turns. i find squeezing the hose on is pretty tedious.
 
I can attest that the Bosch 36mm hose with 27mm tool fitting is not as stiff as the Festool anti-static 36mm hose with 35-36mm tool fitting. Don't know how to compare it to Festool hoses that are not anti-static or the Bosch anti-static (blue and red) hoses.

I do know that it makes that Bosch grey hose a useful alternative assuming you are OK with having a hose in your available options that is not anti-static.

The Bosch grey hose costs no more than the green/black anti-static adapter hose. In fact I think is is $10.00 less but again, you have a hose in your group of hose options that is not anti-static. I have never used that adapter hose from Bob Marino's either. So I don't know if it is long enough to be a fittings adapter hose that offers enough strain relief for the lighter more nimble tools.

I love my Bosch non-AS hose. For the money it is perfect. I wear an anti-static grounded wrist strap in the winter but it is a silky smooth hose with great suction at an excellent price.

Not to hijack but I have always wondered about those straps. You can pay anywhere from $5.00 each to $20.00 each for them in anything from single use paper through cloth etc. Which has worked best for you Bryan? Mostly sold so computer technicians can work on equipment.
 
Also just because we were on the topic, I thought I would look at my 27mm Festool AS hoae. I have not looked at that for awhile. So I had to actually look at it to make a judgement. Rating all three of these hoses purely for flex, I would say that from most to least flex:
1. Festool 27mm AS (green/black hose)
2. 35mm fitting, 36mm Bosch non-AS (grey hose)
3. Festool 36mm AS (green/black hose)

Don't have one of the Bosch (blue/red) AS hoses to fit in for comparison. The Bosch non-AS is closer to the Festool 27mm AS in flexibility at least to me. I guess that says something about the stiffness of AS hoses generally. As was mentioned I am not convinced I would want to be dragging that 36mm AS hose behind something nimble and light. Again IMO, the TS does not flinch. But the smaller sanders....would be a problem even if they fit I think. That adapter hose is intriguing. But if I neither had the Bosch non AS or that adapter hose I think I would buy the Bosch non AS hose again before getting the adapter from Bob's.

You are struck by the remarkable difference in hose diameter between the 27mm and 36mm hoses. The 36mm is so much bigger.
