Carvex Chip Guard question

Just brought home my new Carvex and am chompin' at the bit to give it a good go. But I can't slide the chip guard down. What's the trick? The manual says "using minimum pressure..." Yeah sure.

Thanks for your help.

I don't own a Carvex....but if it's like the trion, get the chip guard started and with the jigsaw vertical, chip guard against a piece of wood,
turn the jigsaw on and press the saw down towards the work surface.  this should push/force the chip guard towards the blade of the jigsaw.

Hope that makes sense.

If all else fails.......a 5 pound hammer works!    [scared] [eek]

(as I said in my review) I find that it usually requires a lot more than minimum pressure to move then chip guard.

Push it down using the ridges on the front and not the sides.  Also apply pressure inward and downward at the same time.  That way the whole thing flexes so that the plastic balls on the side of the chip guard doesn't rub or snag against the dimples on the carvex.

I learned this trick from watching reruns of Big Bang Theory on TBS.

I tried that and it does not seem to help me very much.  ???

Also don't try to do it with one finger.  Wrap four fingers on the front and press evenly inward and downward.  If you look closely at the inner track on the left and right side of the carvex, you'll see that the only thing that restricts the movement of the chip guard are the balls on the guard grabbing and digging into the dimples of that inner track.  Flexing the plastic so that balls get released from the dimples is the only way to get it to move.

If you try to move the guard by pressing on the sides then you will be pushing the balls deeper into the dimples and the guard will not move.

I had the same problem when I first picked up the Carvex.  My natural grip was to hold the body in my right and and use my right hand, from the front of the saw, to pull the chip guard down.  No luck.  I switched my grip to hold the body vertical and used my thumbs to push the guard down (away from my body) and that worked.
