carvex circle cutting problems

I used my circle trammel yesterday for the first time.  I was trying to make perfect circles and the start stop point was never perfect.  I did what the manual said ( bob marino carvex manual, Chris christopherson? i think).  First drilled hole right at edge, careful not to impede into the circle.  I also went counterclockwise.  Is this device really just used for radius making jigs, or partial radius, not full circles.  I had to make two circles, screw them together and use a flush cut top bearing bit to smooth them out.  I turned the top circle 90 degrees and then continued so I could used only the correct part of circle to guide on bearing.

I admit that I haven't tried mine out.  But I remember that there was something written about which hole the pin was placed.  Did you notice that?

Just a thought / question.

Glad this came up because I am about to cut 20-plus circles with my new Carvex, and don't want issues of the type you describe.

Peter Parfitt has two videos on YouTube on the Carvex 420. In the first video he demonstrates the setup and cuts a perfect circle. Perhaps viewing the videos will reveal the solution. The videos gave me confidence in using the Carvex for a project meant to be fun for me and grandson, and not having to fiddle a solution such as you describe.

Regards,

Frank,

Sorry to hear that you're having issues. The circle cutter is for circles, otherwise we'd call it a radius cutter.  [tongue]

A few things to check...

Like Peter suggested, the pin needs to be insert on the same side of the circle cutter as the saw, more on that in the link I'll provide below.

Make sure you are using the correct blade for the cut. I'd recommend the Carvex FSG blade.

Lastly, rather than reinvent the wheel trying to help you diagnose what's going on, can I get you to move the discussion to this existing thread? It has other comments from myself and other forum members trying to assist another Carvex user who was having trouble. It also have video of the circle cutter in action.
