But get the df700 I have both of them and I think it's a much better machine than the df500
Care to add some explanation to that statement? Why is the big Domino so much better than the small Domino? The big Domino does not do the 4, 5, 6mm slots.
Comparing the two the 700 front end is better engineered
I dont like the height adjustment on the 500. when you lock the fence it gets pushed forward away from the chassis
I think it would have been better if it had been designed to pull back to the chassis ?
the first job i used it on was to joint some oak to wrap around some steel beams to hide them after i altered a ceiling
lots of 10mm domino's in hard oak and the fence moved all over the place, i had to fill them in and start again
and stick sand paper to the lock on the fence to stop it moving, pretty poor for such an expensive machine ?
As for the 5 and 6 mm domino's I have went back to using a biscuit jointer for jointing panels and such
I feel its better extra width with a biscuit, and i was having to use 2 domino's on mitres of architrave around doors with i can use 1 biscuit to stop it twisting
The DF700 however is very well build, the fence height is on two bars and there is no chance of it moving the stops are great and its all really well thought out ,
for me its a far better size in domino's for what i use
Its the best made bit of Festool gear i have ;D
