Change in Festool Warranty Policies

Everyone,
I have some pleasant news to report...

Festool is changing its warranty policies.  Starting this year, warranties are no longer limited to the original buyer of the tools.  In other words, the tools will come with a three-year warranty, starting with the date of purchase, and that warranty continues no matter who owns the tools.

This subject has come up a few times in the forum, and I know many people have wanted the change, so I am happy to report that Festool has responded!

Thats nice, but I don't see the need since you will probably have to pry my Festools from my cold dead hands ;D
Seriously its a good move, helps resale. I would think.

Regarding Festool's warranty--and I don't know whether the latest change is relevant to my concern--the 1+2 warranty supposedly triggers the 2-year extension only if the registration card is mailed within 30 days of purchase.  The problem is that none of my tools came with a registration card.  Did the dealer (Woodcraft) submit it for me, based on the name/address they have on file for me?  Will I have a problem if I need warranty assistance (with Festool, of course, I don't expect to) during year 2 or 3?

Dealers are supposed to submit tool registrations for you, so Woodcraft probably did.  You should be covered for the 3 years.

WOW, thats pretty unusual. A difinate sign of class. It also shows they have faith that warantee work will be unlikely or at a minimum.  I have found that warantee work is a good marketing tool.  The better the warantee, the less the mfg expects to have costs associated with repairs.

That's the way I think about it, which gave me the confidence to buy a few used Festools despite the nontransferable warranty. The old policy didn't make sense, neither did the old ISA policy. I'm glad Festool continues to analyze and upgrade policies in addition to the tools.

I must admit that this just puts Festool one more step ahead of everyone else at least in my view. It is not even so much the extension of the warranty as much as they listen to us a users. That is a huge sign and not to be taken lightly. Fred

OK, so where do I fit in with the used Domino that I bought last September?

The Sawdust Shop said they needed all this info for warranty when I got my TS-55. Now I know why, and I agree that is another plus in their favor. I think they have a pretty good bead on what the customer wants from them. Maybe better than we have ourselves. I wonder if they do focus groups?

Yes Mark they do, right here, all of the FOG members are one big focus group. Festool asked for our opinions a few months back about how they could improve things, the warranty was one of the things we talked about.

I have a question, maybe Christian or Shane can answer, is the new warranty a global change or just in the US?

Brice,

As far as I know this is a change to the Festool USA product warranty.  I have no knowledge of changes in other countries.  I think everyone has it right, we listen to our customers and we are extremely confident in the quality of our products.  It's that simple.

Regarding the effect on previous purchases, I will need to check as this policy change was just released.  I'll try to find out and post an update.

Per Christian, any tool that is still within its warranty period, regardless of ownership, will be covered.  That means anyone who has purchased a used Festool that is still within its three year warranty is now covered.

Does the change in warranty policy signal a fresh look at the policy on selling demo and refurbished tools? The new transferable warranty policy is a huge boost to the on-line auction market for used tools but Festool and the ISAs would also benefit if allowed to sell demo and refurb tools.
