Clamp clamp

Bryce,

These are pretty easy to make yourself if Steve isn't making them anymore.  Get a set of qwas dogs,  drill and tap a hole through it to match the threads on the kreg clamp.  1/4 20 I think.  Then get a knob from Rockler or woodcraft that theads through the hole in the qwas dog.  Seal threads with permanent locktite and put a large washer on the bottom of the qwas dog to distribute the clamping force over a larger area on the underside of the table.  As long as the qwas dog is below the surface slightly, your done.  If its long trim it back.

The kreg clamps ar the ones that come with the kreg facve frame clamping table.  They have a small treaded round head bolt in the bottom that slides on the kreg track.  You can also buy the clamps separate.

I haven't used my DJ-1 from bridge city tools, but this would be a good job to try it out!

You may be correct Jay, I'm just going from memory and don't have them in front of me.  They are my go to clamps on the MFT most of the time.  Also you really don't need aluminum to make the post. It doesn't really carry much stress.  You could easily get some hard dowel rod and turn it down to 20mm with a large shoulder.  The shoulder could become the knob so you wouldn't need the star knob from rockler.  you'd only need a bolt cut to the right length.  I haven't tried on out of wood so I don't know how durable it would be.

I am loving the binder clip solution.  Cheap, simple, effective and I already have them by the box in the office.

I have the Kreg clamp and it's really nice and have wondered if Qwas was making these for sale.  I've tried all sorts of contraptions to mount the clamp to different locations on the table but this seems the best.

This is what I have been using with the Kreg Clamp.

It is similiar to the ones I sell on ebay but threaded  5/16" x 18 to match the clamp. It is nice in that the complete assembly can be installed from above the table and then secured with a threaded knob.

If anyone is interested, drop me an email.

Thanks,

John

Hey John, you should list these, too.  The Kreg bench clamp compatibility is a huge selling point.

I was looking at your bench dogs on eBay, but really wanted something tapped 1/4"-20 or had a hole that size, to attach my own jigs to.  I realize the current dog has a 5/16 hole through which the bolt could pass, but the oversized hole means the bolt won't be centered (and the whole point of the MFT holes is alignment!)

For example, Woodpecker's hold downs use a 1/4"-20 bolt that'd be nifty to pass through a dog and be able to use.
Or temporarily bolting on an assembly jig (i.e. adirondack chair jig/holders), etc.

Do you have something like that?

I machine everything myself so if you want any modifications (thread, diameter, length etc.) to any of my products it should not be a problem. Or if you have a idea for a one-off part, let me know, I always enjoy a challenge.

Thanks,

John
