I came up with a new idea for adjusting the fence on my CMS. First I got to thinking that if I set my angle guide on my sliding table parallel and use it as a front gauge for the fence, it would always be square. Then I remembered that I own a sliding parallel from Bridge City Toolworks. It has a fine adjustment of .001 mm and travels 12mm each way. I had to mill the steps on the mount brackets so they would bolt on to the festool guide rail. I then cut some pieces of 8020 rail so I can adjust the fence without disturbing the router bit. I have to go to the 8020 store and pickup some plastic end caps so it doesn't scratch my table. When I'm ready to mill I just remove the guide and hang it on the wall. To adjust the fence, I loosen it, slide the parallel the desired distance, and the move the fence back against the gauge and I'm done. I only make one adjustment and the fence is always square. Totally repeatable.
