I am enjoying the heck out of playing with the CMS after waiting 3 + years to see it here in NA.  Others have had this for years.  I have come up with ideas for add-ons for some of what I want to do.  Do you have anything that you have done?

Please share!

I've found the Mft fence and flip stop to be an absolute godsend for trimming hundreds of stair spindles - square or angled to the exact same length.

Sure, I can think of an add on for the CMS.  Now, this may sound crazy, but how about an insert that would let you mount your TS55 or 75 upside down on a plate and then put the plate in the hole where the router stuff goes?  It would be sort of like a job site table saw.  Get it?  It just came to me right out of the blue.

Brilliant! If someone came out with that add-on and made it available I'd snap up the cms unit in a heartbeat!

I have had my CMS with a ts55 saw module for about 18 months now and over time have equipped it with an OF1400 router module, a sliding table, a side extension table and a micro adjustable fence.  Recently, I bought an outfeed extension table; I was very intrigued by the following set up of Anthony at Ideal Tools (not really a jig, trick or tip, but I am sure of interest to US festool fans javascript:void(0) ):

Anthony considers that the rear extension, and second rear extension fitted to the front when routing... this gives excellent in-feed and out-feed support. Note the custom on/off switch required for safety reasons for this set-up.  I won't be implementing this set up for a number of reasons (well..eh.. mainly $$$). More details of Anthony's setup can be found at http://www.idealtools.com.au/articles/2012/10/02/compact-module-system-relaunch/.

The vibration of the router will cause that perspex fence to drop down at just the wrong moment. Been there. Take ten seconds to unscrew the knob on the featherboard and slide the perspex off when not using it. Silly and lazy to just leave it there upside down.

I took the pressure pads off my Rojek spindle moulder to put a power feed on,
I never liked the feather board and guard on the CMS and never used it so fitted the gaurd off the spindle onto the CMS
i changed the wood block and made a bracket to put some wheels on i had lying around
it works great now

Hey Nigel and Richard,

do you mind making a picture of the setup? I'm not very used to the Incra Jigs, although they look very promising to me.

Thanks a lot
Jed

If you have the sliding table use the stops that keep the table from falling out as travel stops. Great for blind dodos and grooves.

I made a geta today using the CMS for sliding dovetails. It worked quite well. If the pieces were real big, I'd lay them on the MFT and use the MFK sideways for the tails but for this one, it was easy to use the fence for support. I'll do a more complete write up.

Tom,

That is great.  Want to see a write up.  I searched geta because I had never heard of it.  A Japanese clog?

Peter

Glad to hear that.  I find most shoes to be ugly and if that was a clog.....  [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

Peter

I think a long time ago, some might have worn shoes that looked similar. Maybe they still do?

Tom

After experimenting with the CMS over the last few days I found myself having issues holding material still while using the sliding table without using a clamp.  The router fence was not in place.  I tried placing some of the non skid rubber strips that are on bottom of the guide rails.

Worked like a charm!  [thumbs up]

Peter

By the way, if anyone is looking to make jigs and things for the CMS router fence and / or the sliding table fence:

Router Fence slots - 5/16" square nuts (Home Depot)

Sliding Table Fence - 8 mm hex nuts (Home Depot)

Thought I might save you some time.

Beautiful work! Love the contrasting wood species and the dovetail.
