hi

i have the ct 26 dust extractor and am interested in installing the compressed air module,

being new to this idea i am struggling to find any installation info?

also is this all i need or is there more to the system

Hi Adrian, do you mind if I join in on this thread? I was going to ask almost this same question tonight. I've learned that its module no. 496141 that we need. The big thing I am trying to understand is does this replace the electronic auto start, therefore making the festool vac an airtool only vac or does it mount in addition to the electric autostart meaning that we can still use the vac for both electric and air sanders.

i'm relieved it was not just me who is confused by the lack of information

i have a small shop and need to maximise each tool and as i rarely use the air compressor i though this was the best financially and space wise

taking delivery of a planer thicknesser next week so been spending time this week organising my shop to make the best use of space

The module is a pass-through connection for your compressed air hose that auto-switches the vacuum on/off when air flows through/stops. It doesn't turn your CT into a replacement for a compressor unfortunately, so no space saving.

It's an addition to the power auto on/off, so you don't lose that functionality.

It's primarily designed for use with air sanders, where you'd want extraction when the tool was in use.

I did some research on this myself. To add to Garry's comments:

The module fits into a 'spare' or second space on the front of the CT. The space is just to the right of where you plug in your tool now.

Basically the module is an 'auto air switch' for the CT versus the 'auto electrical switch' that comes with it. You connect a hose from your air compressor to the module, then you connect another hose from the module to your air sander or other air tool.

It does not change how the CT works now, but it ADDS the ability for the CT to auto-start once a certain volume of air passes through the new module.

  I was thinking the same thing, but still, how cool is that Systainer Unit... [embarassed]
I wish someone would do a real world air consumption test and general testing of the Festool pneumatic sanders and their common competitors so anyone considering getting one for a shop setting would have more info to ponder over.
Reminds me of the '80s and how everyone listed the air consumption as 4 CFM on their tools in their catalogs..... [eek]  When pressed, they always had to admit it was a false figure, and not at ANY way what you'd see when the tool was under a load for a normal amount of sanding.... [mad]
