Consolidated Q&A for TS 55 REQ Tracksaw

As a moderator I have removed the poll.  I will go looking for the recent thread that mentioned the differences, but until I can find it the biggest difference is that the "R" version is not available in North America yet.

I will post link here to the thread, so check back.

I will double check with our resident expert, but here are the differences I remember off the top of my head.

Dual depth scale (on and off track measurements)
Micro-adjust depth adjustment
Flush cutting ability
Improved dust extraction
Improved bevel range (now from -1 to 47 degree)

I will update with any changes after I double check with my expert.

That got a chuckle outta me.

What is the difference in TS55R and TS55EQ?

Flat housing for flush-cutting
With a flat housing offset to ½”, you’ll make straight cuts perfectly parallel to any edge, further increasing your range of applications with the TS 55 REQ.

Easy-to-read, dual-depth scale
The large, readable scale indicates depth setting, for cuts on or off the guide rail. Included in the kit is also a self-adhering Imperial scale.

Micro-adjustable depth control
An integrated micro-adjust knob enables precise depth adjustment, so the depth of cut can be fine tuned.

Better dust control
The dust channel has an improved design that further enhances dust extraction efficiency.

Greater bevel range
This saw has positive stops at 0 and 45 degrees plus a detent-override that extends the bevel range from -1 to 47 degrees.

Improved Riving Knife
The riving knife now emerges before the saw blade for easier positioning in existing cuts lines.

Streamlined Splinterguard
The splinter guard also has an improved design.

Hi,

I couldn't find the answer to this on your microsite. Is the parallel guide 491469 compatible with the new TS55?

Thanks.

Richard,

All existing accessories that work with the TS 55 EQ will work with the new TS 55 REQ, including the parallel guides.

I just bought a TS 55 EQ but was not aware that a new model was coming out so soon.  I assume that the 30 day return policy is still in effect, realizing that I would be without the replacement for almost 2 months when I return it to LV in Canada.  Can you confirm?

Sorry to be late to the thread.

The TS 55 REQ will be introduced in the U.S. and Canada on May 1st, 2013.

For more information, visit our tracksaw website.

The 30-day return policy is always in effect. So, yes, if you want to return the TS 55 EQ, you can.

An exchange is not a requirement.

Does that mean the saw cannot be plunged into and uncut board or sheet of plywood?

No. You can still plunge in the middle of a panel. If you watch the video you'll see the riving knife in one section. It extends in a way that you can use it position the saw if you have to make a cut in section due to a short rail, for instance.

Plunge cut at 0:30, riving knife example at 1:30.

Yes, the riving knife is spring loaded and so you can do plunge cuts with no problem.

You guys are bad news.  That saw keeps looking better and better.

The riving knife is a lot wider (front to back) so it makes it real easy to drop it in a kerf and line up your rail and saw again.

My favorite thing is the sight window on the outside of the saw, plus I will actually use the outside splinter guard, which works for the full range of bevels and for any depth material.  The old one on the 55 was goofy.

The ATF has none.
Also, to capture all the dust possible, i have made use of good old reliable duct tape.

Just to confirm, does this include the Cover Plate (491750)?  And if so, would the Cover Plate still be useful considering the new saw has improved dust collection? (I'm debating whether to keep my existing Cover Plate when I upgrade to the TS55R, or sell it with my TS55.)

Thanks
