Brian, the cover plate will work with the TS 55 REQ. As for the difference you'll see between the TS 55 EQ and TS 55 REQ with the plate, I've not tried it so I would have to do so and report back. There's an internal dust channel in the housing of the TS 55 REQ that doesn't exist with the EQ. That's what produces the improved dust extraction.
 
The tracksaw site indicates that the imperial scale is "self-adhering." Does this mean it's a sticker?

If so, will it be available separately, and will it work on a TS 55 EQ?

Yes, it is a sticker and will work on the TS 55 EQ. Yes, we intend to have it available as a spare part. No part number or price yet.
 
If you mean cost of the saw, it will be $585

Shane, even though the scale of the sticker (the length) will work on the TS55 EQ, I am not quite sure it is intended to be used with one. The width of the sticker will straddle the joint between the plastic depth gauge and the metal blade housing. Because this is not a perfectly flush joint, there may (or may not) be adhesion problems for some users. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it may warrant a slight disclaimer.
 
Rick, I tried it and there didn't seem to be any problem. However, like Rick is saying, the sticker will bridge the plastic scale and the metal housing to some extent. I can't offer any insight on how it will hold up long term however.
 
The order number for the imperial scale is 704937 and I believe it will be about $2.50 USD.

Shot in the dark: are there any plans or timeline for releasing a TS75req?

I would love to further improve my dust collection, but the 55 is underpowered and undersized for some of my work.

None that I'm aware of. Certainly not this year in the US/Canada even if there were plans.
 
I own the ts75 was planning on picking up the 55req. I watch the demonstration that was streamed live from festool connect and one thing stood out to me. the guy demonstrating mentioned that you need to have separate rails for the different saws. that's a pretty big deal for me. i do believe he mentioned something about calibrating the new saw to the old rail. is this true and how complicated is the process? I have many festools to buy and doubling up on expensive rails seems very unfestool . to me festool is about a system where parts crossover to work with one another. and  going back and forth to work with the ts55 and the ts75 on your set of rails seems like one of the most obvious things that you should be able to do.

nevermind.  I saw a bunch of posts about this and its doesn't seem to be an issue for people with multiple saws. seems like an easy enough adjustment. being new to festools I hadn't considered this situation, but it makes sense that you would need to calibrate it. cant wait to get the 55r [big grin]
 
Ok. Stooopid question coming... is it just me or does the most recent TS 55 REQ pic on the Festoolusa home page look like it has a metal exterior? Is it some sort of weird lighting/editing or?
 
does the 55r actually have "more power"? i see people saying "more power" but amperage is still rated at 10 amps...  ???

Edit - Just to clarify... all of the light grey bits are metal, all of the black bits are plastic.

Nope, same motor. Not sure where you read/saw "more power".
