I have 20 baseball bats to sand.  Has anyone ever made a contoured sanding pad for the r2 de

Contoured sanding pads don't really work with the RS2 as it is an orbital sander with a pad that moves in 2 directions, left-right & forward-backward.

A pad as you ask for would require a linear sander like the LS130 which only moves forward-backward. But then your baseball bats are not of the same diameter all over, so that would become a problem.

I'd probably sand your bats on a table using a random orbit sander like the ETS150 with an interface pad. Put thick cartoon on the table, maybe a few layers so you won't damage the bats, then stick a bat over the edge and roll it sideways while sanding.

Difficult to not sand a flat spot on it using a machine.
If you have a lathe and the bats fit the centers you can let it spin and hand sand it like this.
Maybe first try it by hand, could be a workout or an easy breeze  [big grin]

I turn a bit and best way to sand would have been when it was on the lathe between centers.

That was going to be my suggestion.  Hook them up in a lathe and get some of the sanding strips(or make them).  Works well with the soft backed paper.  It's more flexible and less likely to dig in an edge.
Would go so much quicker than doing it by hand.

Until you figure in the amount of time one has to work to earn that lathe. Most people don't have one just laying around.
