Also — the Festool router aside — oval holes will make sure that any system using a similar oval pin will not swivel in the hole and start going off at a diagonal instead of in a straight line. You could also use some sort of cross-hair arrangement to achieve the same end.

Not to detract from the OP's post, interesting that no one has ever posted (to my knowledge) doing such a conversion from a standard to a holey rail with a CNC.  I would think that would be a quite easy task to complete.

I have a CNC knee mill.  You’re right, this conversion would be extremely easy.  Never done it because I’ve always made the one holy rail I have work.  May at some point if I get bored.
