Hi,

I am trying to find the ID of the Festool copy rings. In particular the 17mm OD ring.  Could someone measure one for me? Or direct me to a listing of this info?

Thanks, Seth

The ?D and ID measurements are shown in the catalogue.  My puppy (16+yr young Golden) is telling me it is chow time, so i have to run.  If you do not have a catalogue, i think the dimensions can be found on the Festool websites.

Hi,

Found them on Festool International. Thanks. The catalog that I have doesn't  show the ID for the OF1400 rings.  But then I didn't specify which router.
One more question- does the Flange on the rings for the VS 600, interfere with use in a regular cut out (home made) template?

Hey Seth,
I haven't used the VS600 copy rings on a regular template, but you would certainly have to figure in the width of the flange when you figure the offset from the edge of the router bit.  Vertically, the bottom of the flange is 3.5mm (about 9/64), by my measurement above the bottom of the copy ring face, so your template would need to be thicker than that.

Personally, I'm about to spring for the porter-cable adapter so I can use those template bushings (after being inspired by Brice's MFS article).

Hi,

So in other words the flange creates an extra "step" around the copy ring bushing?  Can someone provide a close up pic?

Seth, no extra step, the Festool 1400 copying rings are just like PC style guide bushings except they don't screw into the router.

Hi,

Basically I am trying to figure out what the difference is between the regular Of 1400 rings and the ones listed in the catalog as " with flange for the VS600.."?

Also , I take it that the PC bushings fit the adapter that came with my 1400?

Seth

PC bushings definitely fit the adapter ring supplied with Festool's 1400 router.  I normally use that adapter with my bushings, some of which came from Woodcraft and others came from Whiteside.  I also purchased some Festool tabbed (snap-in) copy rings so I can easily use them with my Festool 10 mm bit (which I have yet to try).  Most of my projects have involved repair of old door with damaged veneer areas.  I have been using salvaged veneer from one of the old doors together with a Whiteside inlay kit which came with copy rings/bushings that fit the PC adapter.

With flange for VS600 means they have a small flange that fits just under the diffrent VS 600 templates. With the small flange you can not pick the router straight up until out of the grove on the template.

Aaah, O.K. Thanks.  I think I will probably just go with the PC set for what I am doing then.

Thanks,

  Seth
