CT 22e Losing Suction

I have a CT 22e that is loosing vacuum. To make this simple I have removed the bag, have new filters installed and removed the hose. When the vacuum is turned on and you cover the hose inlet with your hand, there is still a great deal of airflow coming out of the exhaust. I cannot figure where all this air is bypassing from. I contacted Tech Support for some guidance and was told that is normal. I found this hard to believe so I went to my local Woodcraft and tried 2 different dust extractors. When I blocked the hose inlet there was no exhaust air flow. So has anyone else run into this or have any idea where the problem may be.

The exhausted air that you're experiencing is from the secondary turbine.  It's called bypass cooling, for the motor, to ensure that the motor doesn't overheat even if the rest of the extraction airways have become blocked sufficiently to prevent throughput.

Have you tried slipping a broomstick or wide dowel rod down the hose to triple-check for blockage?  I've had a nail lodge sideways in the hose that caused a blockage from resultant accumulated planer or router swarf:  can't recall which.

Compare the vacuum levels with your hand over the inlet with/without the hose, bag & filters to systematically eliminate possible causes of loss of suction.

Remember that there's a secondary air outlet down the bottom that acts as an (admittedly rather poor) air blower outlet.  Check that this is flowing too.

The 22's entire lid opens, maybe that seal isn't tight anymore? Mine had that too, made for a nice irritating rattle and loss of suction.

Aloysius, I've removed the hose from the equation, so no blockage. I would understand the bypass cooling but why would my vac have  all this exhaust airflow but the ones I checked at woodcraft did not?

Alex, I definitely thought the lid might be leaking so I taped around the entire lid..... no help.

Let me emphasize, when I block the inlet the amount of exhaust airflow is almost unchanged.

Because the CT...x6 models did away with that port on the belly of the vacs.

Have you checked for holes or cracks in the body around the rear wheels? That was my problem. Replaced the lower 1/2 black body and it works like new
