It was a good review. I was glad to see the inside of it. I do not see any benefit to using a larger hoses, because it appears that the tube from the top of the cyclone to the vac connection is about 1 inch in diameter. The size of this tube determines the air flow.

That might explain the 36% drop using the D50 hose. 

A real world test (IOW does it work well regardless of what the math might say) using the D36 hose on the 850 planer and 1400 or 2200 routers would be good. Since the D36 hose is the best match up for those tools and those tools are also a primary reason to get the cyclone in the first place.

I was interested to see the Wood Whisperer’s presentation of this product.

For me, it just looks way too cumbersome and clunky to be any real use - better to just get a reusable bag (I have one for my CT26 and it is excellent after years of use) or a bigger vac. The drop off in vac performance with the larger hose (just when you would be more interested in the bulk separation function of the cyclone) is a killer.

I’ll pass on this one.

A gross oversight from the designers. There is plenty of space inside for a larger tube.

Cumbersome and clunky is my DD (for Festool) short hose catches  on stuff and is tip prone sideways but works great...the new cyclone is  not. You do not sand on high and like Marc/TWW found it works as intended with sawing and with the 36 hose router works with no clogging- haven’t tried the smaller- I’ve got it on a mini and works like I wanted on site w/ the a good foot print and perfect hieghth for setting the saws down. Just a bit more info for those considering it

Maybe not. The small size tube may be the size needed with the short cyclone to get the most efficient materials separation from the air.

My issue with this review is that Marc compares apples to pears: the CT is a ‘thien baffle type’ pre-separator. And considering the volume of the container/bag it’s intended use does not included machines that produce high volume large size chips. Ergo the 36 mm hose would be the largest size to use with it.

It’s a shame that Festool’s documentation is so sparse or even lacking (a common problem!).

Debris needs momentum to stay away from the column of air going to the vac. Reducing the tube diameter going into the baffle increases the velocity and ensures the momentum. Bigger incoming tube might need higher cfm vac.

Not seen mention yet of whether this can work without the plastic bins, and just use the lower systainer section with a bag inside it. I'd be far more interested in it without the big plastic bins. I've got no issue emptying/swapping the plastic bag twice as often.
It looks like it would function fine like that, I just haven't seen it confirmed yet..

One of the videos or pictures shows it in use without the clear plastic bin. Not sure if a bag will work in the Sys bottom but I don't see why not.
