I started another thread about CT and Thinset removal but also would like input on if adding the ct-va to my ct36 would work well to capture the thinset dust.  Im a little worried that it might be to fine and the separator wont do much.  I would also consider adding a cyclone to the shop vac if that would allow me to not have to use a bag.

To the contrary, fine&heavy dust is ideal for a low-volume-high-speed cyclone like the CT-VA. It is optimized for that as the applicability for drywall and sanding in general is mentioned.

That said, what you plan to remove will tend to produce more of big & heavy dust where the CT-VA, or a cyclone in general, is not a big boon. I have the CT-VA but when grinding concrete & the like I disconnect it.

CT-VA is IMO great in saving on bags, in AC mode it is mostly limited to drywall where it choking the vac is not an issue and it helping the AC is useful. Either way it will work pretty well even with concrete grinding.

I prefer the bigger air volume a plain D36 or even D50 hose provides. More air volume means less dust escaping ... and the AC can handle it anyway.

+1 on the CT-VA.

I'm currently doing a client kitchen in a very old house - there are large stone arches in there, and I had the sandblasters in last week to clean all of the exposed brick and stonework. They did a great job, but the dust and mess was absolutely biblical - like an inch deep in places. I put my CT on top of the CT26, not expecting it to do very much. I was amazed at just how much it collected - almost everything went into the plastic bin. A quick check afterwards and the bag hardly felt like it had anything in it.

Big thumbs up from me.

And me as well. I got very fed up with "trades" that have been in before me leaving all there crap for me to clean up before i start the main job. So now, i just tell them if i have to spend "any" time cleaning thier rubbish.................it comes off of what i pay them. That concentrates thier minds lol.
But the CT-VTA absolutely takes most of the rubbish before it get's anywhere near the bag, that's for shure........................i'll still charge the dirty sods for at least one bag though............................it keeps thier minds busy  [big grin]
