CTL26 sooooo disappointing

My mate sent me photos of his CTL26.  He's not very good on technology he's only couple years older than me but know as much about tech than an 80 year old man lol

Well was talking to an old workmate the other day.  We did a lot of work together few years ago. We started joinery at same time doing our apprenticeship and I got him hoocked onto festool showed him the ways.

So any way was on the phone and I asked him if he had bought a festool vacuum he replied with a yes and asked why... I asked him is anything broken on it he said yes.  I didn't ask him what I just said could you send me a photo of the damage.

Well he sent me the picture today.

that is exactly how mine looked after a 2ft long 4x2 toppled over and fell against the vac £30 odd to replace the part

My mates words

"The 110v plug is very tight  takes some getting out, it's  w a  n k  feels like you are going to rip the face off then I did"

Thanks for starting this thread JMB, I have an old CT22 that I purchased -well used- about 7 years ago. It has never let me down in any way.I have been planning to get a new extractor soon but think I'll be avoiding the festool vacs until they get this figured out. What makes me mad is they are still going to jack the prices up on these things, which is ludicrous considering the issues so many people are having with them. I already have a kapex that just went out of warranty that I hold my breath every time I pull the trigger. 2 motor failures will do that to you.

Would like some official feedback/response to this issue.

I'm in the market for a new extractor and the CTL26 looks like the right one, but I'm not paying that sort of money for something with these issues.

Are Festool going to fix it? Was it maybe a bad production batch?

???

Yep, same here. Got a 36 that I've had plastic welded a few times (with added strength behind). Just bought a midi yesterday & was hoping they had changed their plastic- they haven't....

Oh BTW I'm in Australia and the first time it cracked was in the middle of summer.

I do timber floor installs & finishing so this vac gets used daily and dragged around a lot.

I guess going by what others look like I should be happy.

I'll also add that this vac is nearly 3 years old.

No because theres big age difference between them so not a batch problem

I think it's obvious now that its just a crap design, especially around the 110v socket.
Those midi's are nearly $900 bucks here once you throw in the basic cleaning kit, just not good enough really.

Looks like I'll just upgrade my existing Bosch to a newer Bosch. The Class M comes with a 35mm hose, accessory kit and is a bit less money...

No problem.

It's something I thought needed bringing up.

So if festool was unaware of the problem atleast they know now there is a problem and they can do something about it

Or

They might have known but turning a blind eye to it all (shame on festool if this is the case) but now its out in the open.

I have always loved my CT22 its solid and its a movable mini work bench always there on hand to cut timber ontop off.

I still take that onto jobs rather than my CTL26.

Only thing I would take from the CTL and add onto the CT  is the removable top rather than the pivot opening.

I don't mind having the smaller capacity because the vac is a lot smaller in the first place.

I bought the CTL26 because I liked the CT22 and thought new = better but clearly not.

I think festool need to revert back and make the hose carriage removable. Make a flat solid top again so people can make a choice if they want hose carriage or not.

My oh my What are you guys doing with them, Playing Rugby? I had my midi now for three years in constant site or workshop use and it still looks like it came out of the box a couple of months ago. Altho I have seen people using them as a hop ups  [eek] [blink] [scared] [poke]

I decided to remove the top and and replace it with a piece of BIRCH plywood .
