So it took longer than any wait on a Festool Sander,  but worth the wait. Gut wrenching Series, lots of drama and excitement.... Go Cubs.....

Last night was the only time I ever watched a baseball game (on TV) all the way through.
My Mother-in-law (from Chicago) made me do it, but it was worth it.

This town has gone nuts with celebrating and will continue to do so through the weekend ( 108 years waiting  means you've stored up a lot of emotion ).  [big grin]

An article in the Associated Press described it as the most exciting series game 7 in baseball history.

Congrats Cubbies!

It was a privilege to watch it with my 19 year old son. He made it home from work by the 4th inning and just the two of us spent time together in my shop watching the game. We talked about my grandparents who were North Siders and lived their entire lives as fans. My grand father coached little league and would of loved this Series Win.

In 2002 my older son and I went to Florida to see 3 games against the Marlin, we were up 3-1 and lost the series after a curse was placed by one of our own fans reaching into the outfield and blocking a catch, so we never made it to the the World Series. He is now 32, so this time with my younger son I was glad to beat that curse.

Really curious why the call it a World Series. Do other countries play?

It HAD BEEN 108 years since the Cubs had won a World Series.  That's even a little longer than I have been 39. [laughing]

Dominicans, Cubans, Canadians, some Players from Japan. I'm sure I missed some countries.

Besides, a bit of puffery isn't so bad. It's like thinking your country is a continent, when it's really just an island.

They first refereed to the game as the world series as far back as 1912, long before any other countries played it or even heard of it. I even found a reference from 1887 to Word series. I cant find an exact reason other than it was the only place in the world at the time that had the game in leagues

In 2016 it truly is a world game as all the best players in the world are on the teams, The teams are made up of people from all over the world as 28.4% of the players are not even from America.

Well, the first one was in 1903 with a team from Pittsburgh playing a team from Boston, which is 572 miles away. So naturally, World Series.

Marketing gimmick of course, the World Baseball Classic of recent years is much more inclusive.

I would echo a comment above, but change it to say that, even though my team wasn't in it, that was the best sporting event of any kind I've ever watched. It had everything!

Just to add a bit more sport in Chicago, New Zealand Maori versus USA friday and New Zealand All Blacks versus Ireland Saturday in rugby.
Wish I was there.

Well a team from one other country ...................... Toronto Blue Jays.  Used to also be Montreal Expos.

Ya, there's rumored to be some...they're just not as good I guess. However I was reading the Canberra Gazette during the rain delay if that's worthy of note.  [big grin]

I get it .. it's a bit like the "Mr Universe" contest then [big grin]

Why some of you guys want to spoil this great game beyond your US borders beffudles mel

It is the best darn game ever devised imo.  The more I've ever tried to learn of it, the more I've come to discern it is the most intricate and multi-divverse game on the planet I know of.

When they play their "World Series", to me, it IS the best of the best in basebaĺl.  No matter there is a Canadian team.  Before long, there may be other non US teams, although the logistics of such are very questionable.

. And there's no crying in Baseball.... [wink]

Our river is dyed Cubs Blue and some are saying the parade could have as many as 3  million people there, topping the 2 million when the Sox won. I am glad I didn't take the kids out of school for that, too many people! But great fun!
