Cutting LR32

Hi All,
Been lurking around the Forum for a year or so and thoroughly enjoy reading the different topics.Have had a couple of Fes bit for a few years
but due to various house moves in recent times not had much chance to use them but now settled and planning a lot of furniture for my new home( Just converting a 16th century barn)

So my first question is I have the 2400mm LR32 which is a bit cumbersome for most of my planned projects and plan to cut it in half but a bit unsure of the best place to make the cut, 1200/1200 seems pretty pointless so do any members have any suggestions as to where to make the cut to make each peice the most usefull.I have just bought a pair of jointing bars to re connect it back its original length.

800 and 1600 would be my vote.  The 1600mm section would be long enough to still use in a crosscutting fashion with sheet good, and the 800mm section is less cumbersome when working on smaller parts.

I'm sure others will have other thoughts on this.

If you wen 1400+1000 you'd still be able to get the Festool bag that holds 2 1400 rails.

I don't know what your common projects are.  For my case, I'm currently building kitchen cabinets, and the end panels are all 768mm tall.  I'm not sure how much the end stops need, but I'd probably cut the short one a little longer than 800 to make sure I could still put the stops at both ends to sandwich a 768mm panel on the rail.  I think the ideal size for me would be 960mm.  Using the 1400mm rail (the one I have) isn't bad, though, so maybe I'm overthinking it.

Of course, that's just the way I do it and the kind of project I'm doing right now.

Keep in mind when you  put them together for LR32 use to account for the kerf  removed by the cut or your spacing will be off.

The LR32 joiner (not sure if that's the right name for it) automatically sets the spacing.  So I don't the that you need to worry too much about accounting for the kerf.  I would probably try to put your cut line somewhat centered between 2 of the holes though, to make sure they are still useful.

1600 + 800. One for small pieces and one that can handle most intermediate pieces.

Less chance that the holes won't line up when cut.

Thanks for you replies and the welcome.
Trying to sell and replace is not such an option here in the uk.The secondhand value is nowhere near as good as in the US so I will definitely be making the cut.From what has been suggested I think I will go for 1600/800.It certainly seems gives me the best flexibility.

PS For someone who is relatively new to the world of Festool I was amazed at just how quicky your replies came back.It just show how popular Festool and this site is.

ill swap you 2 1400 guides for your longen.

or go buy an 800 and 1400 and be happy and prepared for all occasions.
