CXS & Centrotec

I had a small "honey-do" job yesterday to install mini-blinds in a metal frame.

The frame needed to be drilled, then the brackets fastened with screws, with considerable alternating between drilling and screwing.

I used the CXS with the Centrotec chuck and the Atlas Robertson bit for the screws, and the three jaw chuck and a drill bit for the holes.

This is the first time I have done this type of chuck switching, not a huge revelation by any means but it was very handy on this job.

Most of the work was overhead while holding something else so the light weight of the CXS was a nice bonus.

I have to say, the CXS is a true life saver and couldn't be without it both in and out of the workshop. It's a joy to use when you don't want a hefty drill in hand to do a job, so am glad I took this on a while after launch. if you're using the centrotec system a lot, look into the centrotec assembly package, I highly recommend it as there's everything you'd need for drilling, driving, fitting and the likes of. this works great for me, so I don't need to do much other than quick changes. love it.

My only complaint about the CXS to date is the chuck size.

I have a spindle sander "roller pin" that mounts in a drill which I use for guitar sanding, and the shaft is slightly too large for the CXS. Other than that, it can do everything I need.

What is this centrotec assembly package you mentioned?  I searched Bob's site for it and came up empty.

If you have one of the bigger drills also, you can use their keyless chucks.

I think this is the "Installers Set" #498796 which is a promotional item that comes and goes.  I have one pretty much permanently connected to my CXS, with the addition of some Robertson bits it is comprehensive and handy.  On the blinds job mentioned above I even used the hand driver #474487 for some very small screws used to secure the lower brackets.

It includes the famous (?) hook driver #492526, which I have never actually needed but which I have tried just to see how it works.
