CXS Compact Cordless Drill - Post your questions here!

Cool, so this may actually be a Festool drill/driver that even I might be able to afford?  [smile]

It ain't like puttin' a man on the moon, right?

I assume you mean our FastFix chuck system. Nope, it's easy. There's a collar on the back of the chuck that's depressed to attach/remove it from the drill.

Festool CXS Compact Cordless Drill - FastFix

No, it was a failed attempt at subtle sarcasm (too brief because I posted it from my iPhone) regarding how long it takes to take an existing set of bits, package them in an existing systainer, and figure out a price.  [big grin]

Or is it because Festool has never made the imperial bits before?

I've been holding this little machine in my household for approx. 1.5 month now and it's priceless.. very strong and perfect for fitting Ikea kitchens ;-)

There will be two versions, a set and non-set. The only difference will be the inclusion of the right angle chuck in the set. Otherwise, the scope of the delivery is identical.

So is the US version is different to UK/EU versions? Here the non-set only comes with one battery, the set comes with two...

There are two versions available in the UK, and as has been pointed out by Peter the more basic 'plus' version only includes one battery. Here are the details for scope of delivery, along with UK prices EXCLUDING TAXES:

CXS Li 1,3 Set GB

Scope of delivery:
• charger MXC
• elbow adapter CXS
• CENTROTEC tool chuck
• CENTROTEC bit holder
• FastFix keyless chuck 8 mm
• bit PZ 2
• spare battery pack BP-XS
• in a SYSTAINER SYS 1 T-LOC
UK list price (ex VAT) £206 (equiv. to $330)

CXS Li 1,3 Plus GB

Scope of delivery:
• charger MXC
• CENTROTEC tool chuck
• CENTROTEC bit holder
• FastFix keyless chuck 8 mm
• bit PZ 2
• battery pack BP-XS
• without spare battery pack
• in a SYSTAINER SYS 1 T-LOC
UK list price (ex VAT) £156 (equiv. to $250)

Based on the above prices, the fact that Festools generally sell for less in the US, and the fact that companies love 'price points', it wouldn't surprise me if the 'set' version is priced at $299, with the 'plus' version at $225.

Bear in mind however, that THIS IS JUST A GUESS. A slightly educated one at that, but a guess nontheless...

In the US, both the set and non-set will include two batteries according to the information that I have, which I'm quite sure is correct.

So, I'm trying to find some drills for production work, and I was going to hold out for the CSX, but if it's not brushless, that would put put me kinda in the boat I'm in now, the motors wear out.  Festool seems to be the way to go as far as I can tell, but I want brushless, so is the Festool 564216 T 12 going to be the next best thing?  Or is there going to be another one to hold out for?  I was really diggin the "smaller" size of the CSX compared to a "fill-size" drill, but the NIcad ones are too heavy, the lithium ion ones aren't brushless.....suggestions?

There are the T series, T15 and T12, not a big difference in size and weight between the two, brushless, lithium ion.  The C12 is being discontinued and marked down in price, brushless and you get a choice in battery size, 1.3 Ah NiCad batteries, 2.4 Ah NiCad batteries or 3.0 Ah NiMH batteries.  Better act fast if you want a C12.  The third option is wait until the new lithium ion C series brushless drills are released, C12 and C15.  As Shane already posted, second half of this year.  Or, buy another brand of drill.

Even though the CXS doesn't have a brushless motor, it does incorporate Festool's smart electronics which protect the motor from overload and overheating. This will keep you from, for instance, burning up the motor like you might in other drills. The CXS, batteries and charger are all warrantied for three years. That's a good insurance policy should anything go wrong with it.

rjones35,

I have a T15 I use in a small production setting, It has held up incredibly well, I am really happy with it.

If you want a deal on an amazing drill get the C12 set with 1.3ah batteries, they are Nicad's but with Festool electronics you won't know the difference. Added bonus, an extra battery is only $55.00 usd. I personally never thought I would spring for a Festool drill with nicad's but I'm converted. Use it everyday, all day. Will probably get the CSX when its here brushless or not. Just noticed your other post about the C12, small screws and speed control no problem.

This is probably posted somewhere, or maybe I should know already, but is the warranty still three years on the discontinued C12?  The problem with the Metabo motors was the that the brushes actually wore out, wore down to nothing.  So that is a concern of mine.  As well as getting a discontinued model, and having problems down the road maybe getting parts or service done.

Rjones, yes, unless there is some unwritten rule somewhere, you will still receive a 3 year warranty on discontinued C drills.

Same three year warranty on the discontinued C12. The three year warranty on batteries only applies to Lithium Ion drills. Festool is committed to supporting discontinued tools for a minimum of 7 years with accessories. So, you'll still be able to get batteries and service parts for many years to come.

On Festool's power tools they use auto stop brushes.  Before these brushes completely ware out they stop the motor preventing any damage.  Just replace the brushes and your good to go.  I'll let Shane ask Lester if the drills use this same type of brush.

Here they are boys!  Available for pre order - technically no hard release dates yet....

$225 Festool CXS 564261 Cordless Drill - Under $250 for a Festool!!

Festool CXS 564274 Cordless Drill with Right Angle Attachment for under $300!

So, since the only difference between the two is the right angle chuck,  I guess that makes it a "50-buck chuck"?  ;)
