Debate of the day: "Jigsaw" or "Jig Saw"

The sabre saw (also saber saw) is a powered or unpowered hand-held reciprocating saw. The sabre saw consists of a reciprocating cutting implement, usually a toothed blade, to chiefly cut through wood and other various materials. It's also an advantageous implement when cutting into tight crevices.

I always thought of jig and sabre saws as reciprocating motion saws .. The naming with the sabre is more the attitude in which it is brandished and with the jig , it's the way in which it dances [smile]

I am the one that probably started this mess...

I would not look to FOG as experts in the English language, nor in grammar.
We have Webster's dictionary, the Oxford dictionary, and some others as sources of fact rather than relying upon opinion or consensus..
No where is it depicted as 2 words, nor as a hyphenated couple of words... It is just "jigsaw".
