Delta Sanders

I think Shane covered this once in a post. Both the DTS and the RTS got revised balance mechanisms for smoother operation when sanding .

Sorry, can't be bothered to look up any threads up referring to the differences.
But do vaguely remember some 'warm' discussions as to the fine detail of the differences.
However, pretty sure I remember FOG member Alex preferring the older version.
Richard.

(Edit:  Made  mistake I think.  The 'warm' discussions I referred to, might have been to do with perceived differences between DTS / RTS when wishing to convert from one to another.)

This is correct. They changed the counterweight, made it a little heavier. They also changed the built in fan from a plastic one to a metal one. These make sure the DTS runs a little smoother and is a bit more silent. Finally, they changed the way the pad base was attached so you can not swap it out anymore to alter between a DS and an RS pad like you culd with the DS400.

Also true. I have both, but the DS is my go to model. The DS is a little less smooth as the DTS but as a result a bit more agressive. It just feels like I have more raw power in my hands. When I use the DS too long I do get that tingling sensation in my fingers though, so perhaps Festool was right to change that. It does take a good 2 hours for the feeling to set in, and normally I don't use it that long in one run.

I also prefer the DS because you can change pads so you have the DS and RS in one.

Thanks for reminding me of the key differences, and, the reasons you keep both.
Also brings to mind the various discussions of how to convert DTS to RTS (& vice-versa of course.)
Richard.

Thank you Alex..  I had forgotten the fan blade bit. For what I use my DTS for, I'm happy with less vibration and noise  [smile]

DTS is the smoothest sander I have ever used..Zero fatigue, I could use it all day long.
