Was wondering if someone could link to a video demonstrating the use and capacities of the MFK700 with the planing bit (500368).  I'm in the middle of a commission that involves a lot of tricky fitting, and it would be great if I could flush trim my way to a tight fit.  But there will be areas that won't be accessible to the flush trim capacity of the 1010, even with the edging plate, so I'm wondering if it might be time to pick up the MFK.

EDIT: And which of the modular bases does one use with the planing bit?

I'm a little confused about the purpose of this planing bit as well. The old bit could be used to trim edge banding in a horizontal configuration. I can't seem to find that one anymore but this planing bit shows up instead. It seems like. It's intended to be used in the vertical orientation but given the nature of the MFK, that seems unlikely so I'm confused.

I've used the horizontal  base (0 degree) mounted for vertical use with a regular straight bit to work edging down, would think that the planer bit would do similar.

Might have to check out the MFK edge bander in the Conturo section of Festool, think it has some extra gizmos for the setup.

I just got an mfk700 full set. I noticed you can use the horizontal base as a vertical base if you just fit the router where the dust shroud normally goes. Not sure it's supposed to do that. Only trouble is you don't have much length for the cutter. Not sure how long the planing bits are.

The newer basic base that came out when the vecturo came out is the ideal one. I might look into getting one.

I now use the 0º base and planer bit on my original MFK 700. Properly set it will be perfect for your application.

This video is a 4 years old (damn am I getting old fast). In it I'm using the stick base and the 19mm bit. Not the best set up, but it worked until I got the 0º base, latter came the planer bit.

I do not think the the base brake base will do what you want to do. It is designed for edge trimming not mid panel work. I do not have the new MFK yet, it's on the short list.

I have not shot a video of the new base/bit configuration.

Thanks [member=4105]tjbnwi[/member] So the base you are using in the video is the 0 degree horizontal 491427 (except used in a vertical position):

No, the base in the video is the 1.5º base that comes (at least it did when I bought mine) in the MFK kit.

I now use the 0º base, purchased it as a separate accessory.
