Depth adjustment knob/thread stripped (Festool router OF1400EBQ)

The threads for the depth/plunge knob on this older router (that has given years of quality service) have stripped. It makes no difference whether I push or pull on the know while rotating... it just spins and I can't release the base. I can't see how to release the base plunge assembly without loosening the knob. It's not the knob spinning on the thread... you can see the threaded stud turning & feel it skipping the internal thread.

If anyone can tell me how to get the knob/screw out and if the thread (within the router body) can be replaced, I'd be very appreciative.

The knob itself should open up, which may provide additional access to what you need to be able to see what's happening.

Thanks so much!!! I had never noticed that, and can now see that it is indeed the head of the stud spinning within the plastic knob. Much appreciated!!

For all of the others who have not come across this, the big Festool knobs on the routers and the clamping elements of the MFT are hollow. They split in two around that thin line of the perimeter. It's a simple hex headed bolt inside. If you have a need for one to be longer, it's easy to do.
