When I was at a Roadshow Event last week I had a chance to talk with some of the attendees and heard about how many tips and tricks they had found here.  Even Allen commented on what a great resource the FOG is.

So the question is:  Do you have a favorite tip or trick that you have picked up here - or shared here?  If so, what is it?  Sharing it again might just help out someone else.

Picked up a tip from Darcy a long time back that made using my ts55 a pleasure to use without the ct attached.  Just put an electric hand planer dust bag on it and go!

I do a lot of new construction site work, so lugging up a vac to the job site makes very little sense.  And it makes the saw much more portable within the job site.

I think the tip about using a short (~18") 27mm hose whip to reduce the 36mm hose on my boom arm such that it can be used with sanders and eliminate the need to have two hoses on the boom arm.  The connection between the two was looser than I liked, so I used a 1-1/4" copper plumbing sleeve to tighten up the connection.

Then again, there's the one about using two dominoes stacked to create table top clips to join a table top to the frame.

Is there any way people could link to them in this thread? I am not sure who Tom is, but I have read a few ripping techniques on here for example.

To plunge the face of a board, with the domino, by using a straight edge 10mm below the mark.

What is the purpose of this? Is it to position a domino as a shelf support?

ThanX for links Guys  [big grin] , it's most helpful to those like me who missed those great discussions  [sad]

This aids my confusion. Same Tom, different thread. I knew I'd read the same sort of thing twice and had adopted it, but not the thread that Tom had posted a few above your response, it was this one I'd read deeper and followed.

Cheers.

Yep, same me. Imagine how confused I am.

You want to be really screwed up, try my YouTube channel.

Peter,

I have learned a ton of information on the FOG but, the single most important thing that helped me the most was finding out here on the FOG discussions that my first generation Domino DF500 had an issue with the fence slipping.  After contacting Festool America, I sent it in and Festool changed a part and returned it to me in a few days.  That was a few years ago and I have never had a problem with it since.  Participating and learning here on the FOG is a great advantage over any other machine tool or power tool experience that I have had over my 35 years of woodworking.

Jack,

I am starting my 5th year as a moderator here and of course I was a member prior.  I have been fortunate to meet those who service the tools and also a tiny cross sample of the members here.  They all share the same helping passion.  I will agree with you again that we are lucky to have such a unique situation here.
