I am looking into importing some 20 mm PVC pipe from France. This pipe fits the holes in the MFT snugly and makes great bench dogs or for aligning jigs on the MFT top.

It is going to cost about $1.50 per foot to get it here. I'm planning on selling it at my cost plus the cost of shipping to you (Priority Mail should be about $5.00 in the USA).

If you are interested in buying some, post on this thread and let me know (and how much you want). This offer will last for 1 week and for North American FOG members.

Yes, I would like some!

If you are interested in buying some, post on this thread and let me know (and how much you want).

As a very new newbie to all this, can you make a ballpark recommendation as to how much I might want or need? Given the hassle of getting it, and the reasonable price, more would probably be better. But not too much more . . .

I assume it would be used in lengths between perhaps 3" and 6"? If so, would 6'-8' provide a reasonable stock for future (unanticipated) projects, jigs, etc.? (Shipped in shorter sections, of course.)

Let's see -- 10' would be $15 + $5 shipping = $20.

Just a thought, but for your convenience perhaps it would be helpful to offer a "standard" package size. Then you could cut them all to the same length (consistent with less expensive shipping), and package them the same way. If anyone wanted more, they could order multiple packages.

(This is beginning to remind me of the ever-present infomercials on TV . . .    "But wait -- there's more! If you order in the next ten minutes we'll super-size your order! Order now and we'll send you TWO widget collections -- one for upstairs, one for downstairs -- just pay additional shipping and handling, and the second one is FREE!")  ::)

I'm thinking the same as you, 3 inches makes a good bench dog.

I'm thinking the "standard" package size will be 12 inches, enough to make 4 bench dogs. It will be sent in 12 inch pieces unless stated otherwise.

Iggy07, I would ship yours in 2-3 foot sections so they can fit in a Priority Mail 3 sided "tube".

Yes, I would like some too.  10 feet would be plenty.  Please keep me in mind when you order and let us know the details and final cost.  12" pieces would be  fine for me.

Thanks for taking the trouble to do this.

I'd like some. When you figure out what the best length for shipping is I'll make a judgement on how much to buy.

I was figuring most people would only want 6-12 inches. I'm surprised to see 2 orders for 10 feet. Makes me glad I asked. :)

I would think 2 foot sections will be the cheapest on shipping. The 3 sided box is smaller (weighs less) and allows the cheapest rates.

I use 50mm dogs, i.e  2", in all the pics I published.

3" seems a bit too long to me, and it would be a bit of a waste,

So a 300mm section  makes 6.

My quantity recommendation is to have at least 10 of these,

It needs at least 3 dogs to secure a fence like the one I described,
but I  generally put one dog in each hole because it's damn handy
to  hold tools, screwdriver, wrapper, the big black star bolts of the
flat fast clamps (I'm thinking of glueing a nut in the upper part of
some dogs),  a pencil (I closed the lower part of the pipe with
a piece of cork for that).

This way of organizing tools is so convenient and neat that I made an extra
row of holes in my fence using a pattern like

          O  O  O  O  O  O
            O    O  O  O  O

I'll post a pic later.

Thanks Michel. I'm thinking 3 inches so I can 1 inch going through the table (I know it's only 3/4 inch thick but I'm not going to go looking each time) and 2 inches standing above. The TS-55 can cut about 2 inches deep. With the 2 inches above, I can stack boards to the top of the dog to make exact cuts.

So that's my logic there.

I'm thinking 10 feet is a little excessive but, like they say, they are preparing for any future needs. And we're not sure what that may be.

I would rather order a whole bunch at once rather than small orders every 6 months or a year.

BTW, I like the idea of cork for the pencil holder.

2  x 300 mm section is a good start. I personnally use
- 6 to secure a fence and hold tools.
- 6 at hand to be dogs when needed

I never tried 3" but it may be the case that such a dog would slightly flex,
and the top board might be (very) slightly of out alignment.

Thanks for that hint. ! did not think of it, but I like it. The obvious is always hard to see !!

I would suggest to fill these longer dogs with foam or the like to make them more rigid.

I'm planning on ordering around June 6. After it arrives, I will post here and let everyone know. You can pay me and then I will ship out to you. My payment can be PayPal (which accepts credit cards) or you can send me a check / money order.

BTW,  since we are discussing this topic,
I can ship direct to European members having no easy access to these 20mm PVC pipes,
if any interested. Let me know by PM.

Steve, I'd like 4 to 6 feet depending on how you chop it up so that shipping makes sense. I know you addressed this, I'm just trying to say any amount in that range is okay with me and I want to give you flexibility in packing.

I'll take 5 ft plus or minus - whatever is easiest for you.  Length of individual pieces doesn't matter to me.

I would like three lengths of whatever unit will fit in the mailing package.  What a great idea.
