Does the earlex hv5500 actually spray???

Fuji Q5 or Apollo precision with a pressure pot. You could get away with a Q4 or an Apollo Power 4.
Neither is cheap and you will need some additional accessories whip hoses, needle cup sets and probably a second gun setup to accept a pressure pot feed...

Thanks for the replies on this.

Just gone down to morrells and purchased some of their 2 pac paint and primer. I'm debating on running this through my earlex hv5500 as i really don't think it's going to be capable.

Has anyone used the this hvlp system?  ST-1 240V Turbine & Gun
Website: http://morrells-sprayshop.co.uk/morrells-standard-and-low-pressure-spray-systems/

Was told it's an upgrade from the apollo as this has variable pressure control and fan width.

I've looked at that briefly myself, I'd be very interested to know more if you decide to go for it.

Hi,

I have an Earlex 5500 and I agree it is a classic case of you get what you pay for.  I need to upgrade my HVLP, and am listing mine for sale today, just not getting the professional results I hoped for.

What would others recommend for a step up in performance.  Mainly used for spraying cabinets, cabinet doors, interior doors, etc.  No paint booth.

Will be spraying in my shop or outdoors.

Thanks.

Brian

Graco 9.5 Turboforce with Edge gun and gravity cup conversion is my go to because it is good in the shop and highly mobile for going on the road.

No problem thinking of getting it tomorrow. Don't know if they'll have it in stock but will keep you posted.

I have the earlex 5500.

I have had it for years.

I don't do a lot of spraying but I have used it a lot over the years.  From oil based, water based and acrylics and stains.

My favourite to spray with the earlex is oil based.

I only get the problems you are getting is when the paint is to thick
Or
I've used a brand or type of paint which doesn't seem to spray very well.

I have a high pressure spray gun but hate using it because a lot more cleaning and a lot more spray/mist .

I always go to my earlex because it's simple easy to clean and does do work perfectly fine for what I need it to.

Regarding cleaning it...... I struggle to believe you can damage the gun cleaning it.  I have had it soaked in cleaners I have used wire brushes to clean it because I have a few times forgotten to clean the paint out.  Come back months later to find I left it full of paint...... Oops.

I have dropped it few times.  The tin is dented/miss shaped now so if I tip the gun to far over paint runs out but still the gun works.

I need to get a new pot.  Very annoying when you drip onto the work piece.

It's similar to a gun that Dulux a Trade Centres sell. I think it's called a Q3 but can't remember the actual make.
I'm just about to Finalise / decide what to replace my Earlex 5500 and like the look of the Fuji Q3.
It's highly recommended, stocked inc accessories by Axminster and price looks right.
I've had a look higher up the Fuji range but don't think I can justify a substantial bump for slightly more powerful / quiter turbine.
I like the look of the Q3 with the gravity xpc gun mostly for spraying cabinets and only water based product.
Any comments?

Just stumbled across this.

Me and my Earlex, spraying DTM on a bulkhead.

Clearly Scott you're not spraying spraying dulux satinwood as splutters would be everywhere.

Jonny,
I went out and got the st 1 turbine unit from morrells. My only issue with it so far is the noise as it's louder than the earlex. However i've got some morrells paint coming in on Tuesday so can test it out for sure then. Seems a lot more robust, stronger unit than the earlex turbine.

Correct, I am not spraying Dulux. I am spraying direct to metal acrylic, which is a rather heavy viscosity and fast drying product - a bit of a challenge through a bleeder style HVLP outdoors.

I upgraded to the St-1 from morrells from the Earlex. One of my best upgrades to date. It's brilliant, I only use morrells W/B EVER. Must have done 60L this year, all with incredible results. Unit has more power and is controllable from the machine end. Good gun adjustments, pleasure to use.  Take on any finishing jobs now as I have total confidence in the kit. Main uses... 20% sheen clear lacquer on Birch ply for my carcasses, 20% colour matched to F&B on tulip with ply panel. All mdf work. Their primer is awesome btw

Can I ask how much you paid for it?

All mdf including carcasses and all sprayed with morrells WB lacquer and st-1, I know it's hard to see on the photos but it truly gives a great finish.

I'll dig recent out over the weekend, but I'm remembering... £350-370 can't remember if that's including! Sorry it's not much help. But I will check. Bought it with a load of lacquer at the time and it was an impulse buy with no research.

The Morrells paint is great.
The st1 is a great unit, however not too keen on the build quilty of the gun. The fan adjustment had broke on its second use and i can no longer get a circle spray.
Have never tried their primer but will give that a go now i'm using MR mdf.

I paid £430 for mine.

Another one for the scrap heap?  [eek]

I'm going to try and source another gun, I have seen another one with a similar connection. I'm on my second gun too. Waiting on Morrells to see if they have spare part so it can be repaired. Same thing, black knob at the back snapped off.

Such a shame because the build quality of the turbine is spot on. Let us know what you get when you do.
