I've been using the XL700 without any issue for over a year. (I think it is a brilliant tool). Sometimes I use the setting to cut a precise mortise, and sometimes I use the "just a bit extra width" setting. When I've used the wider setting in the past, the mortise is a bit wider, but not any taller. Which is how it should be. Today when I used the wider setting, the domino fit was quite loose top to bottom. When I looked at the cut I could see that the top part was smooth and even, but the bottom seemed uneven, as if I had moved the tool when plunging the mortise; however I had not. I went back to the precise setting and the problem did not happen. Returned to the wider setting and the problem was back. The drill bit is in fine condition and is not loose. It is not my technique, I've used the tool hundreds of times with no problem. I did a test cut, making sure that the tool stayed rock solid and did not tilt at all in any direction. Same problem occurred. Can any one shed some light on what's happening?

Len
