Domino Cross Stops

The painted/scribed line on the sight window is a crude indicator because the pencil lines may not be the same in thickness, and there is also the parallex issue. The paddles (or pins in the old model) are reliable for registration and use with the tight setting provided they are calibrated. The factory setting must be checked using scraps.

The narrow/wide pencil mark technique has worked for me for hundreds and hundreds of tenons. Occasionally, couple of taps on one side is needed to get perfect alignment. No drama. I hate drama in woodworking, especially with expensive wood!

I, too, use the narrow/wide settings mostly, except for the first alignment mortises and for structural mortises where I'd use the tight/tight setting.
