domino for table leaf "pins"

I'm thinking about using the domino instead of traditional pins on some table leafs we are adding to an existing table.  Anyone did this and have any tips to share?  It seems like it would work really well.

This would seem like it would work pretty well. You might have to sand down the end of the Domino that would be sliding Br sliding into the mortise just make it easier to install and move the leaf.  If this table will be old or given to others you might want to include replacement Dominos in case any was broken.  This is where the simple tapered dowel might be more easily replaced by a non woodworker should the need ever arise.

I believe that would be absolutely fine.

Ensure you taper the domino end as you would a dowel, otherwise you'll chance damaging the mortice edges from repeated misaligned insertion attempts.

it should work fine, but is it going to look right? 

saving 10$ in hardware seems silly when you talking about a project that cost hundreds of dollars in material and labor.

I'd also suggest sanding the sides of the protruding dominos too. If this is a dinner table for example, where a little liquid of some sort might be occasionally spilled, if that liquid happens to find it's way to those dominos, you might get some wood expansion and locked in place effect.

We were repairing this old table for my Grandma.  The three table boards are new (originals were lost).  As you can see we used the Dominos instead of the typical dowels.  Overall it worked good, although i don't think we necessarily saved any time, as all the dominos had to be tapered and sanded.  Thanks for the tips you all provided.
