Domino Gadget for box building.

You can really mash down tightening them.  You can also take a small round file and create just a little bit of an eased edge around the hole.  Think countersink.
This should give enough room for o-ring to be squashed and expand into.

"Here are the part numbers again. I ordered them through Festool's Customer Service Dept., although I did check my local dealer's availability first. You need 2 x 469620 (Clamping screw) and 2x 200911 (O-ring). The big knob is 487554.

For those that have used these parts, how are the O-rings placed? I tried putting them on the threaded end of the clamping screws to make them captive to the plate, but that just causes the plate to sit unevenly. Is there some trick I'm missing?

I think people's use of the o'rings is just a novelty because the festool plastic parts use this method to keep the screws, etc. in place.  I wouldn't advise using the o'rings since the plate is meant to be flipped over for different wood thickness.  It'll just be frustrating taking the o'rings off and putting them back on and you'll shortly have a torn coil of rubber rather than an o'ring anyway.  Don't use them...

That was pretty much the conclusion I'd reached on my own in a few minutes of trying things out, but thought maybe I was missing something. Though I did consider buying a second plate and keeping one set up on each side.  [wink]

I disagree.  The vast majority of the time I'm using the Domino and this sole plate it is going to be with 3/4" material.  The o-rings keeping the clamping screws in place and ready to go is well worth the $0.68 cost (each), IMO.

Careful removal is not difficult, but even if one does tear, it's a mere $0.68 to get a replacement.  Since I'm generally impatient about those sorts of things, I have 2 spares already on hand.

I use the o-rings to hold the screws in place so that I do not lose them. When I am using the plate I remove them.

Think of them as a storage accessory.

Richard.

I just use common M5 socket head cap screws to attach my plate.  My Domino doesn't travel outside of the shop and I switch sides often so I don't use the o-rings.  If you care to provide some clearance for the o-rings a standard chamfering tool in your drill will work just fine.

I just counted & I have about fifteen (15) plates available from this batch.  If anyone cares to order one send me a private message for details. I can make & sell the sole plates for (EDIT Sept. 5) $38.50 ea.+ $9.50 postage within the U.S. Other countries usually cost $13.95 but please contact me with your location to be sure.

Ron,
The plate you sent arrived Wednesday.  Thanks very much.  Looking forward to putting it to good use.

I just used a 9/32" drill in my drill press to rebate the holes about 1/8" on both sides of the plate.  Now the o-rings stand just a touch proud when the plate isn't attached to the Domino tool, but sink completely into the rebated area when the plate is attached, allowing the plate to mate right and tight with the Domino tool's sole plate.  The original hole diameter remains in the inner portion of the plate, preventing the wee boogers from making a great escape.

Ron,

Have been using this thing to death.  When I find time in the next couple of weeks, I will post some pics.  Used it to set floating shelves(!), join prefinished zebrawood panels for roll-around carts/seats, etc.  I love this thing!

It's like the saying "When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail."  Only now with my domino and domiplate, everything looks like it needs to be mortised!

Thanks Ron, I really appreciate this little addition to my lineup.

Jon

Let us not forget that the credit goes to Polarsea1 for the original idea.  [wink]

I've sold all of my current batch of plates.  It will be about 3 weeks before I have another batch ready.  I don't accept anyone's order or money until I have plates ready to send out.  Again, that will be in about 3 weeks and I'll post when the next batch is ready.
Regards,
Ron

Ron,

Please put me down for 1 Domiplate and let me know when the new batch is ready.  I will get with you about payment then,

Thanks, Joe
