domino height gauge

To center a 6mm bit on plywood 19.5 mm thick, I have to set the height gauge to 13mm--9 or 10 puts it too close to the top surface. 

I've noticed this happening on other projects, but until now it hasn't been critical.

(If I set the board thickness slide to 20mm, the height gauge reads 10, as it should.) 

Any solution for this?  I haven't removed the screws holding the height scale in place, but the top one looks like there might be a little bit of adjustment possible.

That is the purpose of the Domiplate.  The plywood current standard thickness of 1/2" ply is 31/64" (.484") and the standard for 3/4" ply is 23/32" (.718").  Even if using actual 1/2" thick material that only moves it off center ~.008".   It is probably a little more important to somewhat center the 4mm Domino tenons in the 1/2" stock than the 3/4" material.

As you've no doubt noticed, it seems to make a difference where is china the ply is produced as to the actual thickness.   [wink]  

Minor difference in centering the mortise usually doesn't matter as long as you observe & register from the finish edge and finish surface of the ply.

Ron I have your plate and it is awesome. Some times though I use odd sized lumber and plywood that is not 1/2" or 3/4 and would still like to keep my slots centered. Have you considered shim packs or different sized plates?

No, it's opposite. 1x 2x lumber, 3/4" plywood are NOMINAL dimensions.  It is NOT 1", 2" or 3/4".
In Europe, and in the rest of the world,  you buy 10mm, 12mm, 16mm or 18mm plywood or lumber.  Router bits, scales AND material have the same dimensions unlike in the USA reality.

First off the METRIC SYSTEM IS GREAT!  As someone said the issues (within the U.S.) come from using imperial standard lumber & ply.  This results in things being not quite exact or even.  But as we all understand it isn't at all critical that domino mortises are perfectly centered.

Yes, we are making up shim packs for the XL machine to cover the lower end gap not covered by the "out of the box" XL fence.  My son is coordinating SENECAWOODWORKING production so please direct those sorts of questions to him.

Number one son Ryan just picked up a large run of Domiplates yesterday.  He is also supposed to receive a new laser today so his bottleneck should be relieved in short order (my guess would be the first of the week).  [unsure]

I once asked an employee of Windsor Plywood (guess what their specialty is) why plywood is inconsistent in thickness.  He replied, with a straight face, that the thinner sheets came from the bottom of the stack.  Plausible?

given that a lot of sheet goods are made with 100s of tons of force to compress everything  together. i doubt that another ton would make any difference.
