Domino needs a shallower plunge

I do wish my Domino had a shallow enough plunge to make a Mortise in 1/2" plywood w/o going through the other side. That's about the only thing I can think of I'd change. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Could you make a roughly 'U' shaped spacer and attach it upside down to the face of the Domino so that it wrapped around the cutter opening?  Could it be attached with screws into those two small holes?

A quick fix for this is to use a piece of PVC a little bit larger ID than the plunge rods.

Take the pvc stick and notch into it perpendicularly. about 1/4" wide notch with a jig saw.

Then cut off coins different widths and use them as spacer c rings for shallower depths.

Or, you can leave them full circle like a washer and slide the body off the rods, insert the spacers onto the rods, and replace the body?

Try putting another board on top of your workpiece and plunge through it first. A 1/4" board should be about right if your workpiece is 1/2".

Cut each coin to the formula 28- desired depth of mortise=coin length. So for a 5mm deep mortise, cut the plastic to:
28mm-5mm=23mm long plastic coin. 28mm is the deepest mortise cut by the Domino.
This was shown by Rick Christofferson about a year ago.

Thanks, Thats the ticket.

I second the PVC trick.  I did it myself when I was cutting into 1/2" stock - works great!

A real quick add on to the Domino to shorten the plunge is to attach 2 or 3 self stick cabinet door bumpers to the face of the machine. This does limit the use of the spring loaded stops but it is a quick on and off way to get a few shortened plunges. I use bumpers that are clear, flat topped and project from 1/16" to 1/8".
