I was thinking about using 4 mm Dominos for adjustable shelf pins in a cabinet that I’m building. Has anyone done this? I was also thinking about cutting half mortises in the bottom of the shelf for the Dominos to register in so the shelf doesn’t slide around. I’d clamp scrap to the end of the shelf and center the mortise on the line between the shelf and the scrap and plunge a mortise. Then unclamp the scrap piece, leaving a half mortise on the bottom side to rest on the Domino in the side of the carcass. Any thoughts?

Can be done, but take into account that the domino fits fairly snuggly in the mortise.
So the adjustable experience is not the same as with regular shelf pins.
I have used it in a very large storing cabinet with heavy items to be stored, it worked perfect and I was using the LR32 for the pattern.

Jerry Work, in one of his articles, had a fairly elegant solution to using the DF500 with the LR-32 system. The catch was, you need the older DF500 with the pins rather than the paddles.
I haven't seen anything about "fixing" the DF500 to the LR-32 using the newer, "paddle" version. If you come across something, please post.

If I understand this correctly, looking at the vertical sides of the cabinets, you will now see a series of 17mm domino (4 x 17) holes instead of a series of 5mm standard shelf pin holes. [eek]
I think it would be easier, faster & cleaner to just use the 5mm shelf pins. You could still add the half mortise to the bottom of the shelf for registration, using a 5 or 6mm brad point drill bit.

Check out this thread for a super simple way to do it without an LR32 system.
You can always make your own shelf pin dominoes in a contrasting wood as a feature.

That’s exactly what I was talking about. I will only be placing about 3 rows though. It’s a small cabinet with a single shelf that doesn’t need infinite adjustability. I really like the jig the one guy made. Seems like that would be a perfect way to register the Domino.Rob-GB said:
