Want to start a pool to see who is closest to the actual Festool list price?  I'm going with $1195.00 U.S. dollars.   [unsure]

Yes, let's start a pool. I will "guess" last.  [big grin]

OK, but you have to "guess" by the end of February...  [big grin]

And Ick has to have the manual done by the time it's available for sale...  [tongue]

I have been dreading this day for quite some time.  [crying]

While I know I do not need this, I will probably want it.  [embarassed]

Oh, yeah... Trust me, you WILL need it!  [not worthy]

It is pretty sweet, but for that kind of money I can buy a chain mortiser and tenoner with cope heads and still have money left for some ice cream.

I bought a PowerMatic PM701 mortiser four months ago and now I'm absolutely kicking myself. I know I'm going to find the money for an XL (probably buried in the couch, har har) and then I'll never touch that PM701 or my biscuit joiner again and I won't have to build that horizontal mortising machine...

I know everybody said the 500 was a game changer. The XL is THE game changer!  [jawdrop]

The winner gets to buy everyone on FOG a beer !

That's the best idea yet!

I'm weighing in at $1295.00... [doh] [2cents]

Keith,

Darcy likes to buy heavy metal from time gone by and restores them to their previous glory.  The XL 700 doesn't fit the parameters.

I will guess $1300.

NOTE:  as a moderator I have no inside knowledge of product introductions nor pricing.  This is only my guess.

Peter

So by "The Price is Right" rules it has to be the closest to the actual retail price without going over...  [popcorn]

He would like my 70+/- year old 36" Tannewitz that's sitting under a trap waiting to be restored... [blink]

Serious question, and if it's out of line, please say so, or Mods, delete it.

OK...what application in furniture building can it be used for?

My line of thinking is that the Domino is more than capable given the range of sizes/multiple placements.

I can't see a need for anything larger unless I was in the building trades, and even then....where?

A reasonable size table and heavier grade garden furniture are obvious uses.

In the building trade - it's perfect for doors, gates, etc.

To me it's a tool that would make great sense for a professional. It also lends itself to rational cost justification ... simple time/cost/savings analysis.

Multiple placements with the DF 500, still don't give you the depth of the XL - doesn't matter how many you put in.

Conceptually this situation is no different to any type of tool that comes in different sizes. Big saw, little saw, big drill, little drill .... they all have their useful purpose.

It certainly has a lot of potential for timber frame building with those beefy 14x140mm Dominos. At the same time I feel like the smallest stock Domino in the XL's stable (8x50) will work for 95% of my needs when I'm making cabinets/furniture.

You can set the depth of cut to a minimum of 15mm and buy some of the long stock Festool will be selling to custom cut 8x30 Dominos.

Maybe, just maybe if enough people agitate for it Festool will make a 6mm cutter... [drooling]

I was thinking it'd be great for timber frame, and doors construction.

I can see door builders falling in love with the machine.

My guess is that this will be priced at $1,350 for the base kit and $435 for the accessory kit.

Scot

I think that whoever guesses right should get one for "free" [poke]

And also 30%-35% more than the "500" is priced here -- no more, no less.
Why so? I do not understand.

Ron

You think you would be able to get them test units back from the testers??!! Good luck!!
