Drywall with MDF????

Can drywall be mudded well to MDF? There is a transition where we need to run a drywall ceiling into an MDF face - curious if anybody has tried this.

My guess is that a crack will develop at the joint.  Different expansion contraction rates.  Not knowing the exact application I would suggest that you look to see if a j bead or other transition joint would work to allow for the movement.

I cannot reasonably imagine it working and not cracking in short time. I would also recommend a transition joint instead. A drywall endbead, a run of 1 1/8" stop moulding as a detail, etc. painted the same color. This would stop any call backs.
If I had to try to mud it ... mesh tape, structolite base finished with DB and mud.
